William Bullock

Hi, my name is Ernie Bullock; I apologise if I am not following correct protocol, but all this is new to me.

I have been building my Family Tree for over 30 years and my wife's Family Tree for about 8 years. Of this time, the majority of it has been trying to trace my Irish Ancestry on my paternal side; of which I know very little.

My parents were born in Liverpool.. Toxteth Park, West Derby. Ernest Bullock (1908) and Ada Annie Bullock nee Clarkson (1911) and are both deceased.

My grandfather was Thomas Bullock born in Liverpool in1877; then this is where my problem starts. His father was William Bullock (could be Bullick) born in Ireland (I don't know where) in 1817. I believe he married in Ireland but I have no details, other than it may have been to Sophia Pownall, born in Dublin in 1823 and died in West Derby, Liverpool in 1874.He married Mary Jane Abraham , nee Wiley (or Wylie) on 7th June 1876 in West Derby, Liverpool. Vol 8b Page 913.

He last appeared on the 1881 UK and Wales Census but there is no trace of either of them after that. There are so many William Bullocks. I did find the death of one in Dungannon Ireland in 1901 but after sending for the death certificate I was none the wiser

His father was also called William and I think he was born In Ireland about 1796. Other than this I have no further information about them. I don't know whether there is enough information here to enable someone to come up with anything; but any information would be grately appreciated.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched Roots Ireland and FindMyPast and could not find baptismal or marriage record for William. I also went to the Irish Times site which shows where surnames were found in mid-19th century Ireland. Bullock was found mainly in Down, Armagh and Antrim and Bullock was mainly in Antrim.

Hi Ernie:

My name is Brenda Bullock,  I've been researching my paternal Bullock records and can find no farther back than when they emigrated from Ireland in 1838 to Ontario, Canada.  I believe they may have lived in Co. Monaghan, as that is where they were married, but I have no other information for any other family left back in Ireland.

My gr gr grandfather is Samuel Bullock1804 – about 1858 married in Co. Monaghan in 1834 to Margaret Jane Doherty 1812-1847.  They arrived in Cornwall Ontario, and had their 3rd child there and then came onto the Kingston Ontario area (Pittsburgh Township) and settled on the farm (which i still live on).  I'm not sure on the Irish naming rituals, but I'll list some of the other names in the family to see if you think anything might link my family up with yours.
