William Bradley born King's County 1818 was the son of Isaac Bradley and Anne Webb buried Tullamore Civil Parish

Miriam,

Yes she was Anne Bradley when she died. Thank you for thinking thru what I meant and for responding so quickly.

I believe the family would not have been Catholic because the ancestor who relocated to Wisconsin USA had a very strong animosity towards Catholics per family.

Thank you for confirming that there are not any transcriptions for cemeteries in the area. I could not even find a cemetery in Bunaterin but I have old notes that a family member used to walk past the graves. I must contact  that source again.

I hope that by posting here others who are descended from the Issac and Anne Bradleys of Bunterin, Killoughy will add infomation on the family. As I said in my original post sons William, Abraham and Henry were in Wisconsin.

A couple of years ago I was told that  in 1635 three Bradley brothers went  from Yorkshire, England to Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny  to work in the coal mines there. Yesterday when my family member DNA matched another Bradley descendant at Ancestry DNA and that match showed only 2% Irish DNA I remembered the story about Bradley in the Midlands of Ireland descending from those Yorkshire brothers. (I was further told that Bradleys in the North usually descend from O'Brolochain a Gaelic clan).

Ireland Reaching Out always comes thru. Thanks for being a volunteer.

Regards,

Mary

Hi Mary, saw this post and thought I would reach out to you. I am researching the Webb family from counties Offaly and Laois. My Great great grandfather was John Webb, the National Boy’s School teacher in Clonaslee, Laois from 1832 to mid 1850s. In Clonaslee there was another Webb, Henry, who was postmaster and a teacher at the Erasmus School. I have read that Henry was from the area called Blue Ball or Pallas. Two of his children, William Henry and Elizabeth immigrated to New York City in the 1850s and settled close to where John and his family were. I believe there is a connection between John and Henry. Through DNA testing I have connected with a descendant of a Thomas Webb. Thomas was in the constabulary from 1821 until 1854. He was also from Offaly and through his job eventually went to Kilkenny and then Navan in Westmeath where he died. His daughter, Sarah Jane, married James Bradley in Navan just before she emigrated  to Australia. So I have the Bradley name as well as the Webb. Seems families often intermarried.

Birth dates I have for all are John 1789, Thomas 1796 and Henry 1793. It is possible that your Mary could be a sister. Research is so difficult. Henry and Thomas Webb were Protestant. Story in my family is that John converted to RC when he married Mary Cashin. The church in Clonaslee unfortunately does not have records for the time period of his marriage or the baptisms of his children. My great grandmaother, his daughter Elizabeth, was married in 1856 in Clonaslee and hers is one of the earliest records in the church register. She had a daughter, Susan, with her husband Richard Kilroe before they all emigrated to NYC as well. Would be nice if we could connect the dots somehow. Good luck with your research. Will post if I learn anything.

Eileen

Hello Eileen,

Thank you for the reply which is a statement on the information you have on your Webbs who have a Bradley connection. I have sent a copy of your post to two sources in Ireland. I suggested that they either post a reply here or reply to me or both. I will post whatever information I am given if it is not posted here. I look forward to your sharing more Webb Bradley information here when you find it. Regards, Mary

Thanks Mary and Sorry I referenced the wife of Isaac Webb as Mary when it should have been Anne! Sometimes the research gets my head spinning! Looking forward to sharing whatever info we can.

Eileen

Mary,

I found this entry for 1839 in the Ireland Outrage Report (1836-1840). Thought you. It like to see it. Adds a personal touch to the stories of our ancestors. Looks like the name Isaac Bradley carried down through the years in Offaly specifically Bunaterin and Brackagh, which is a place associated also with that H Rey Webb who was the Protestant teacher in Clonaslee.

Eileen

Sorry it would not let me upload the image but basically it is a handwritten report of 9 sheep being “plucked” from the fields of Isaac Bradley and being shorn of all their wool by persons unknown!

I have continued researching my Webb ancestors hoping to find connections. I am suspecting that Constable Thomas Webb (1794) from Kings County (referenced above) is a brother or cousin to my John Webb (1789). Henry Webb, the Protestant school teacer in Clonaslee was also from Kings County, possibly Blue Ball or Pallas. An interesting connection I have just found is in the 1855 census. Henry Webb had two children who were married on the salme day in Ireland in 1852. His son, William H Webb married Catherine Knaggs, daughter of Matthew Knaggs and daughter, Elizabeth Webb married John Thomas Fielding. Both couples immediately immigrated to New York City. (William and John had been living in NYC in the late 1840s before they returned to Ireland to marry). The census of 1855 shows these two couples with infant children in Brooklyn, NY. Interesting that on  the same page of that census record there is listed Henry Bradley with wife, Elizabeth and infant son, Isaac S Bradley. I believe Isaac is the older brother to your husband's ancestor, William, who was born in Wisconsin. A later record confirms that this Isaac was born in NY. Sometime between 1855 and the birth of William in 1856/7 this family unit must have moved to Wisconsin. Around the same time, 1856-1857, John Webb the teacher from Clonaslee, immigrated with his family to NYC settling around 26th St and 10th Avenue. City directories show that at this time the families of both Wm H Webb and John Fielding moved from Brooklyn to the same area of Manhattan. John Thomas Fielding opened a drug store directly across the street from John Webb and Wm Webb resided at 97 West 27th Street. Sadly Eliabeth Webb Fielding died very young. John Fielding remarried and eventually had more children who he moved with to Canada in the 1870s. I can find almost nothing on Wm H Webb after the mid 1860s. But it seems to me that there is a connection between John Webb, the children of Henry Webb and in turn between them and the the son of Ann Webb Bradley. Then you have Sarah Jane Webb, daughter of Thomas Webb, marrying James Bradley in 1860 in Ireland as well and immigrating to Australia. Has anyone in your family taken the DNA test. Would be interestung to see if there is a match to anyone in our family. Of course the relationship may go back a generation further if these Webbs were1st cousins rather than siblings. There is so little info out there in the Irish records that these connections are very exciting. Geneologists always say to check "FAN" s (friends, associates and neighbors)! I thought this has to be more than just coincidence, so thought I would send you what I have learned. Would love to hear what you think!

Hello Eileen,                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Thank you for sharing your interesting research and observations. I agree that when family relocated they often lived near family members.

Descendants of my husband's 2XGrGrandfather, Wm Bradley b: 1 May 1818 Bunaterin, Blueball, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland  d: 26 Mar 1888 Sun Prairie, Dane, Wisconsin, USA have  taken autosomal tests mostly at Ancestry. They have also matched a descendant of Abraham a brother of Wm. Abraham died in Kansas, USA. They had a brother Henry who lived in Albany, New York before moving to Dane County Wisconsin where he later died. Many descendants of William and one of Abraham have also uploaded their DNA to GEDmatch. Has any of your family autosomal tested? And have any uploaded to GEDmatch?

At Ancestry my daughter, the 3X GrGrand of Wm Bradley matched a test of a person who Ancestry projects as a descendant of Isaac Bradley & Anne Webb. The manager of the test said, "Through DNA analysis my family has a confirmed connection to the Bradley family, that we THINK follows Mary Bradley (b: 1867?) with her marriage to a man with the last name of Mullen.  We're trying to learn more about Ann Webb and Isaac Bradley to see if we can confirm the link with documentations."   I will also copy him on your information.

Regards,                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Mary

Hi Eileen and Mary,

Eileen, my name is Cris Correia, my husband Neil Bradley, is also a descendant of William Bradley and Ann Webb.  Mary and I have corresponded about this family regularly in the past.  Hi, Mary.

The Henry Bradley mentioned above, with wife Elizabeth and son Isaac S. Bradley, is the brother of William Bradley and son of Ann Webb and Isaac Bradley.  Isaac Samuel Bradley was born in Albany, New York.  His parents married in Dublin, Ireland in 1852 and Isaac Samuel was born in 1983 in NY.  Henry and Elizabeth did have a second son, William Bradley, born in Madison, WI in 1856.  It's really interesting that this Bradley family was living on the same block as your Webb ancestors.  I have never been able to find anything about Ann Webb's family.  Neil's aunt, Clara Bradley, believed that a Webb family in Chicago, Illinois was related, although there are no notes about how that family might be related.

Neil and his sister Ruth have taken DNA tests on Ancestry, and they have been uploaded to MyHeritage and Gedmatch.  Do you have any Webb family members on those sites.

Best,

Cris

Hi Cris,

Thank you for writing! I have been trying to tie my family into the Webbs of Kings County, Ireland. The Webb family that lived in the same block in Brooklyn, NY where the Bradley's lived were the children of Henry Webb who lived in Clonaslee. It was reported that he originally came from the Blue Ball, Pallas, Killoughy area of Kings County. He became the school master of the Erasmus school in Clonaslee, Queens County. He was also postmaster in that town and the petty sessions clerk. My ancestor, John Webb, was the Boys National School teacher also in Clonaslee. After John immigrated to NYC in the 1850s, the Webbs that lived near the Bradleys in Brooklyn moved to the same block as John Webb and his family in Manhattan. I do have a DNA match to a man in Australia (user name Pmeighan 200358). This person is descended from an Irish Constable, Thomas Webb, also from Kings County. Thomas' daughter, Jane Sarah Webb, married a William Bradley and they immigrated to Australia in 1861. The close proximity of these Webbs leads me to believe there is a connection, just can't seem to find what it is. The story in my family is that John converted from COI to RC in order to marry Mary Cashin/Casheen also of the same area around Kings and Queens County. Also seems likely the Webbs were brought to Ireland as part of the seeding of these two counties with English settlers around the early 1700s.  Many of the descendants of John Webb have taken DNA tests. The problem seems to be that when you get so many generations out the DNA gets really diluted, so sometimes only one of us has a promising match and it is at very low amounts. A distant male cousin of mine matches the PMeighan I mentioned with 28 cms, but I and another female cousin match with only 7. At least there are several matches that help confirm connections, but when there is only one of us, it gets iffy. Anyway, would love to keep in touch and be able to share whatever we can find. You mentioned Chicago. There is no one that I know of there in the Webb family, but John's oldest son, James Webb, did eventually leave NYC and settle in St. Louis, Mo where he remained the rest of his life. His children fanned out to California, Colorado and other western areas. The rest of us basically remained in the greater NYC area although now we are spread out to quite a few states. I am in North Carolina. Although John Webb was a teacher, all his sons were butchers in NYC. James was a meat inspector when he relocated to St, Louis. I would be happy to send you a list of user names for the descendants of John Webb, who have DNA tests results on Ancestry. I have access to several of them but not all, and there might well be a match between you and one of them, that would be exciting!

Best,

Eileen

Hi Eileen,

Thanks for your response.  My email is criscorreia@bellsouth.net.  I would love to exchange usernames for the DNA profiles.  Maybe we will get lucky and find a common match!

The only information on the Webb family that I have is from correspondance and notes belong to my husband's aunt Clara Bradley.

There's a letter from a Bradley cousin in the 1950's where he recalled a Charlie and Thomas Webb, both deceased at the time of his letter and buried "down the road."  There was no information on how they might be connected to the Bradley's.

Clara had notes that some of her great grandmother Ann Webb's family had immigrated to the U.S., but the only descendants that she was aware of was a Webb family in Chicago and a Hill family in San Francisco.

There is a 1936 letter from Robert Webb of Chicago that provides some information about the Hill family.  The letter also mentions a Samuel Webb, and it seems Clara had referred to Samuel Webb in a prior letter to Robert Webb, but again nothing providing information on Samuel's relation to anyone else.  Robert's father was William D. Webb.  I'm afraid that's all I know about the Webb family.

Best,

Cris

Hello Cris and Eileen,                                                                                                                                                                                                             Eileen, I'd like a copy of the list that you send Cris. As Cris knows it would be very helpful if our family members who DNA test would upload their tests to other sites. I often say,  You may want to get into uploading your DNA to other sites. Consider checking out the following  article (see link) which reflects my opinion based on my experience.  Irish genealogy blog Irish Roots: "How to Use your DNA Results in Irish Research"  https://www.irishfamilyroots.com/post/how-to-use-your-dna-results-in-ir…; Just skim the overly long section on FTdna.  If uncomfortable using a link Google "How to Use your DNA Results in Irish Research" to get the blog & article. "    Attached is a chart showing which DNA tests one must pay for and which sites accept free uploads of DNA tests. Regards, Mary

Mary, sorry just saw this message. Would be happy to send you a link to view the chart I created listing all known descnedants of John Webb who have taken the DNA test on Ancestry. Please send me you email address to Anzen64@gmail,com. Thanks.
