Walsh / Finn — Old Pallas

Hi everyone, I’m researching my Walsh family from Old Pallas/Pallasgreen and would be very grateful for any local knowledge.

My grandfather was Thomas James Walsh, born in Pallas on 9 September 1915. His parents were James Walsh and Bridget Hayes, who married at Ballyneety Church in 1907. Their children included Margaret, Patrick, James, Stephen and Thomas. Margaret later married Michael Ryan in Knockavilla in 1936, while Patrick, Stephen and Thomas all later had links with Manchester.

I’m particularly trying to learn more about James Walsh’s side: who his parents were, where exactly the family lived around Old Pallas, where they may be buried, and whether there are still Walsh relatives in the area.

I’ve visited Old Pallas before, but I’d really like to return knowing much more, especially the exact locations of family dwellings, farms or other places connected with them.

If any of these names sound familiar, or anyone has local knowledge, records, maps or family stories that might help, I’d be very grateful. Many thanks.

The civil marriage (from rootsireland.ie) for James and Bridget shows that James's father was Patrick Walsh; Patrick was living at the time of the marriage in 1907.

Walshes living in Pallas in 1901. Could James and his family be living somewhere other than Pallas in 1901 or is the James age 33 living with his sister Mary yours?

I found a Patrick Walsh living in Pallas in 1901 and 1911. He was a bootmaker. James' marriage record identifies his father as a laborer.

Maybe- Per RootsIreland (paid subscription), there was a James Walsh born to Patrick Walsh and Margaret O'Connell in 1867 in Pallas. Siblings-Patrick 1858, John 1860, William 1862 (there was a William that witnessed James' marriage), Michael 1864.
