Visiting Galway in May
Hello,
I am researching the Robbins families that lived in Leitrim Barony,County Galway in the 1800s. Most of these families lived in close proximity to one another in the parishes of Leitrim, Kilcooly, Kilmeen, and Mullagh. Two smaller groups of Robbins families were found in Loughrea and Ballinakill Parish. My Robbins Family was from Ballinakill and I am trying to link them to the other Robbins families.
I will be visiting County Galway in May and would like to pursue some of the leads that I have found in the local area. Are there any old cemeteries in these parishes that I could visit to look for information? I know of a few local cemeteries, and I was wondering how I could visitthe Old Kilmeen Graveyard (https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2538594/kilmeen-(old)-graveyard) which is on private land?Does anyone know who I would need to contact to visit the graveyard? Would it be worthwhile to visit the parish churches in the area? Or are the records found on Ancestry and the National Archives of Ireland the onlyavailable records? Are there any other local resources that would be helpful for my research?
The following townlands are some of particular interest based on my research:
