Very early 1800 ancestor, Patrick Cox
My 4th g grandfather, Patrick Cox, left Ireland with his wife, Mary Stinson, and three children: Michael, Francis and Mary Anne.He was born 1772 and lived in Kilmore, Roscommon but I also have a military record that states Leitrim (though no help with parish name). They emigrated to Canada in the early 1800's c. 1804 and the men and boys enrolled in the military, fought in the Battle of 1812, and then were granted crown grant land in the Eastern Townships of Canada. Michael was a drummer boy (aged 7). I know that Michael was Church of England as an adult in Canada his entire life. Patrick was married at Notre Dame in Montreal (RC). I know of no records that will help me with a family that left so early in the 1800's. Certainly no civil records. And without a church parish, I am not likely to find church records either. I assume I am a dead end, and should just start my family genealogy with exit via Sligo and arrival in Quebec. Any ideas anyone?
