Veronica Birmingham, Kilrush, Co. Clare

Seeking information on the family of Veronica Birmingham. She was born 24 Dec 1880 in Kilrush, Co. Clare to John Birmingham and Julia Prendergast. She also had a sister Mary who was born 12 Dec 1876 in Kilrush. Veronica immigrated to Hudson County, New Jersey in 1899 and married my great Uncle, Thomas O'Brien ca 1906. They lived in Bayonne, New Jersey and one child who died very young. Thomas died between June 1915 and 1920 in Bayonne. Veronica died May 1968. Would be most interested in learning more about her family in Ireland and particularly if her father might have a connection to my great great grandmother, Bridget Birmingham who married James Cushing.

Hello again.

I located a civil marriage index record for John and Julia. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register office for around four euros. The record will show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1875. If you want instructions for getting a copy of the record, let me know.

I did not find a likely 1901 census record for John or Julia.

Here is the 1855 griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kilrush parish. There were three Bermingham records.

Roger, again thank you.  While Veronica Birmingham, at this time, is not a known direct descendant, it is hoped that getting the marriage of John and Julia might give me John's parents and somehow they might connect to my great greatgrandmother, Bridget Birmingham.

If you plan on getting a copy of the record, go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx   print out the marriage form and fill it out to the best of your ability. Make sure you ask for a copy only. Include the info from the index record I gave you i.e. registration district (Kilrush) year, and volume and page number ( 19 and 153), You have to mail the request to Ireland (address is provided when you print the form). You can ask GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.

I provide a credit card number and have not had any issues.

Roger,

Thank you for your assistance.  I did order copy of the marriage for John Birmingham and Julia Predergast.  This does appear the couple I was looking for.  Found that Julia was previous married to a Wallace.  Also found that the marriage (1875) was witnessed by a James Birmingham.  I suspect this may have been a brother.  At the same time I have a James Birmingham living with in 1880 with my James O'Brien and Mary Cushing.  Mary's mother was a Bridget Birmingham and this James is listed as a uncle according to census to head of household, who would be James but it is possible that he Mary's uncle, although age appears to be about the same.  Is the site you found the orinigial information a searchable site so I might check and order other possible links?

The site I use for civil index records is a subscription site FindMyPast.ie   You could try www.irishgenealogy.ie which is a free Irish government site and they now have civil index records.

Hello, I have information for you. Your ancestor John Bermingham (born approx May 12, 1843) is my grandmother's Uncle.   Put another way, John Bermingham is my great-grandfather's brother.  He married Julia Wallace, the widow of James Wallace.  Her maiden name was Prendergast.  They were married November 7, 1875.  The Bermingham family still resides in the old family home in Ballykett, Kilrush.  They are lovely people and welcome family when they come home.  My grandmother Bertha Bermingham was born there and came to New York with her sister, Susan.  Later their sister Josephine and brother Mike came as well.  Susan never married and Bertha married my grandfather, Bill Morgan.  They lived in Manhattan and had a large family.  Their son Matt is my father.  I was born in Manhattan and grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ not far from Bayonne.  There are quite a few Berminghams in the New York area.  If you are looking for records, St. Senan's is the parish church in Kilrush.

Thanks very much Evan.  I did find most of that information on Veronica Bermingham.  What I was hoping to find was a connection between Veronica's grandfather, Daniel Bermingham and my great greatgrandmother, Bridget Birmingham.  She could have been a sister or cousin.  By finding this I hoping to also figure out where my Cushing and O'Brien lines came from in Ireland.  As I previously noted, Veronica married Thomas O'Brien.  He was grandson of Thomas O'Brien and Mary ? and James Cushing and Bridget Birmingham.  I'm sure the Cushing line are also from Kilrush, Co. Clare.

Evan if you did not know, John Bermingham's parents were Daniel Bermingham and Mary Considin.  I know that Julia's father was Patrick Predergast.  This is not my direct line.  Veronica would be may great uncle, Thomas O'Brien's wife.  But somehow all these family names repeat in the line.

Hi Dennis,

My records show that Veronicas grandfather Daniel Bermingham is brother to Bridget Bermingham who married James Cussen/Cushing.
