Turley / Torley family

Hi,

I’ve been looking into my family tree for a while and have hit a bit of a wall.

I am looking to see if anyone has any information about the family of Patrick Torley / Turley, born June 1866, in Newry, County Down. He married Julia McCabe, born July 1865 in Ardee, County Louth, with the name Judith used on her birth certificate (I believe). Patrick and Julia married in May 1891 in Newry and eventually moved to Glasgow prior to 1901.

Patrick had 8 known siblings Joseph (born 1880), Peter (born 1870), Elizabeth (born 1863 and passed young), Michael (born 1877), Thomas (born 1875), Mary Anne (born 1865), Catherine (born 1868), and a second Elizabeth (born 1873).

His Mother was Catherine Smyth / Smith, and his father was Thomas Torley / Turley.

I know Joseph moved to Glasgow as well years after Patrick but can’t find any information about the rest of the family and am also interested in going back further.

Just as a wee extra I was also wondering if anyone has any tips on how to find baptism records from Counties Armagh, Down, and Antrim from the 1890’s.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Regarding finding baptisms in the 1890s, few of the RC records for that time period are on-line. You would need to contact the church where you think each event took place. However they should all have birth certificates and you might find it easier searching for them on the irishgenealogy website.
