Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I just noticed that you have not had a reply to your message. There are two Coolroe townlands in Co. Kerry. One in Killiney civil parish and the other in Knockane civil parish. The RC parish for Killiney would either be Annascaul or Castlegregory. The RC parish for Knockane would either be Killorglin or Tuogh. www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records. Also, Ancestry.com has a new data base of Irish RC church records. Hopefully you can find the baptismal record for Thomas.

Let me know if you have questions.

Laura:

Found the record. He was baptized December 7th 1828 in the Castlegregory church. This means he lived in the Coolroe in Killiney civil parish. Killiney would be in West Kerry out towards the Dingle Peninsula.

Probably there were other children as there are big gaps between the records that are available.

You can search in this source for marriages of the children for example

James K of Coolroe who married Ellen Moore in 1870 father Patrick no mother listed

1901 Census

The family seems to have moved by 1911

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Castlegregory/Caher/294655/

This map shows that Coolroe and Caher are adjoining townlands

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlker/killiney.html

This seems to be your family and if it is you are very lucky because the records were so accessible.

My best suggestion re your visit is to google a bed and breakfast in Castlegregory as some visitors to the area have been very lucky with their hosts who have helped them to find their family descendents and may even know the family if they still live in the area.

Sometimes if you contact the local  post office in Castlegregory they will tell you if in this case the Kennedy family still live in Caher or you can check the telephone directory although since the advent of mobile phones this doesn't always help.

I hope this helps you Laura and that you have a lovely visit to Castlegregory. http://castlegregorykerry.com/

Do let us know how you get on,

Warm wishes

Hello Laura, Roger, and Martine--

I am a great granddaughter of the Arthur Kennedy, born 1836, mentioned in Martine's response. All of those children except Thomas ended up in the States, and we have almost full genealogical information on them and their descendants. (Less about Mary's descendants). One of Cornelius's grandsons did most of the genealogical research; he visited a distant cousin, Eileen Kennedy, in Coolroe in 2005, I believe. We have photos of the visit to the family home. Another distant cousin is going to Ireland in a few weeks, and I am trying to gather information for him about relatives in the area. Laura, if you had success in your quest last September (or even if you didn't), I'd appreciate hearing about your trip. With many thanks to all of you for any help you can provide. And Laura, I'd also appreciate knowing where you fit in on the family tree--which of the children of Patrick Kennedy and Margaret Leary is your ancestor or some relation.

Many thanks to all of you.

Hello,  I have a group photo taken on a liner to usa in early 1950s one of the group may possibly be Mary Kennedy of Coolroe who went to USA in 1950.

Hi Roger and everyone, I just wanted to say thank you again for all your help in tracing my Irish family. I've been able to learn so much about my ancestors and even found some living relatives. I've been using this website to learn more about Irish genealogy and I found this helpful guide on how to search Irish church records. Since I am working on the paper

on the same topic and on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGXW5pS15nY I found some reviews and think of hiring experts. I'm planning to visit Ireland in September and would love to connect with any descendants of my 3rd great grandfather Thomas Kennedy and his parents Patrick Kennedy and Margaret O'Leary. If anyone knows of any living relatives, please let me know!
Warmest regards!
