Troy Family of Wisconsin/Iowa

I am researching a James TROY born around 1832 in Ireland. I do not have a county nor a specific date of entry into the United States. I do know from his obituary in Wisconsin that he was married to a Bridget (no surname) of Ireland also. He died 7 Aug 1917 in Monroe, Green, WI, USA. He was a citizen of Monroe, WI for over 50 years. He may have been born in Waterford. The obituary states Waterford, Ia but I am thinking that may have been a mistype and it should have been Ir for Ireland. Any help would be most appreciative.

Based on data from the Griffiths Valuation survey (around 1850), the surname Troy was most commonly found in Co. Waterford followed by Co. Tipperary. The subscription site Roots Ireland does not have any 1832 James Troy baptismal records but there were three in 1830, one in 1833. One in 1829 and two in 1828. We would need to know his parents names to confirm any of the records. Do you know the name of his oldest son?

Roger,

Thanks so much for reaching out so quickly. Unfortunately I do not have any parents names. James and Bridget had a son born in 1862 named James Troy born in Missouri, USA. A second son was Michael born in 1866 in Wisconsin, USA.

There was a January 11 1828 baptismal record in the parish of Ardmore for a James Troy with father James Troy and mother Bridget Driscol. There was also a February 14 1829 baptismal record also in Ardmore for a James Troy with father James Troy and mother Helen Colebert.

First born sons were sometimes named after the paternal grandfather.

You may want to consider a general DNA test. You may get matches on your Troy line who have more info on the origins of the family in Ireland.

Thank you Roger. DNA test has been done. No matches on the Irish yet. :(
