Traveling to Ireland this August

My 2x great-grandparents, Michael Galvin and Bridget (Ryan) Galvin, were from Mothel, County Waterford. Bridget was born there around 1820 and died in Newport, Kentucky, in 1848 shortly after emigrating. Michael died of cholera the following year. Their daughter, Ellen Galvin, was born in Mothel in 1848 and survived. She later married Patrick James Grace, born in 1843, possibly in Mothel or nearby. His family may have connections to County Tipperary or Kilkenny. The Grace family line may also be tied to the Grace Castle family of Courtstown.

Letters passed down in my family mention relatives remaining in the Whitestown area, and I believe the Galvin, Ryan, Grace, Murray, and Quinlan families may have intermarried. We’ll be visiting the area to explore our roots and would be grateful for any help or information regarding local records, cemeteries, or remaining descendants.

Katie:

We would need to know the names of the parents of Patrick Grace to try and find a possible baptismal record. There are many baptismal records around 1843 mainly in Kilkenny and Tipperary.

Below are links to the 1901 census for Whitestown East and Whitestown West. You will find some Galvin and Quinlan families.

Katie,

There are 32 trees on Ancestry and some suggest, including one I think is yours, that James is from Cork, parents' Patrick Grace and Catherine McNamarra. Have you checked his Marriage Certificate in Kentucky or Death Certificate in Cincinnati, issued by the state, which sometimes identify parents?
