Tithe Applotment for Parish of Loughcrew

Meath

I am researching some of my ancestors from the civil parish of Loughcrew, Co. Meath but am unable to find any records from the Tithe Applotment books for this parish and its townlands. Do these exist under some other names or have they been destroyed or lost. I have found the records for the Griffiths Valuation and even maps from the Down Survey ( 1656-58 ) which lists the parish as Loghcrew.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The National Archives site for Tithes clearly does not have records for the parish of Loughcrew or any variant spelling. The 1837 Lewis Topographical Dictionarly has an aritcle on Loughcrew parish and refers to the Tithe taxes collected. The article mentions a couplke of leading citizens and when I search under J. W. Naper. There was a record in the parish of Moylagh which is just to the west of Loughcrew. I would suggest that you look for your ancestors in Moylagh parish. See links.

Roger, thanks for the quick response. Yes I have already explored the nearby townlands surrounding Loughcrew and have found some which I suspect are ancestors but was wondering why Loughcrew was not covered in Tithes Applotment books. Thanks again.
