Thompson and Fitzsimons
Hello,
My sister and I will be travelling to Ireland, from Canada, in May 2025.
I was wondering if there was any chance to connect with any family that still might be in Ireland.
My grandparents and their first child were all born there,
then they immigrated to Canada (west coast) around 1921
My grandmother was Mary Jane Thompson born June 13th, 1890 at Cullies,
Co. Cavan. (Birthday registered in the district of Cootehill)
She was the eldest child of John William Thompson (Co. Armagh) and Elizabeth Harrison.
A 1901 Cenus of Ireland shows the family living at Looscaun, Co. Galway
and then a 1911 Census of Ireland shows Mary living with 2 of her siblings in her father’s
household at Bollinarig Big in Co. Offaly. This is the same address as detailed on her marriage certificate from November 22nd, 1920. Marriage was registered in the district of Kildare.
My grandfather was Robert George Fitzsimons born February 3rd, 1899 at Letterkenny,
Co. Donegal
He was the eldest child of George Thomas Fitzsimons and Patricia Valentine,
(married April 13th, 1898 in Christ Church in the Parish of Gorey (?) in the Co. Wexford
and registered in Wexford, Co. Wexford )
Robert had 9 other siblings, Henry Hamilton, Maudie Everina, Albert Edward,
Richard Ernest, Frederick Kells, Emily Vera and twin George, Herbert French, and Patricia Valentine.
After Mary and Robert were married they had one child, William George Fitzsimons born Sept 24th, 1920 ( this is my uncle) then they set sail for Canada were they had 6 more children. One of which was my father, Albert James.
I was in Ireland in 2019 and went to Letterkenny, and this was where I did get some of the information from the Parish there and the National Archives of the UK.
Any help with information would be greatly appreciated,
we are so looking forward to our trip! We are landing in Dublin and will have a car to drive around the whole of Ireland.
With many thanks,
Shae Fitzsimons Versluis
