Thomas Quinlan - Gardener

I’m in the beginning stage of finding where in Ireland did Thomas Quinlan and Mary McGrath reside. At some point both came to US, likely joining their sons in Brookline, MA.

I have lots of good information for the US but near 0 for Ireland.

Thomas (Ireland DOB 1804) is my great, great grandfather. Michael W. (Ire. DOB 1836) is my great grandfather, Theodore (US DOB 1879) my grandfather and Harold F. (US DOB 1912) my father.

If anyone can help with details as to where McGrath and T. Quinlan came from in Ireland and any other info it is much appreciated.

The subscription site Roots Ireland has a February 21 1830 marriage in the RC parish of Kilworth in Co. Cork for a Thomas Quinlan and Mary McGrath. This record may be for your ancestors but the names are common so not sure.

Roots Ireland has a number of baptismal records for children of Thomas Quinlan and Mary McGrath starting with a Margaret in 1833 in the RC parish of Ballyporeen which straddles Tipperary and Waterford. I don't see a record for a Michael Quinlan to this couple but there is an 1837 record for a Thomas Quinlan.

The father was a gardener so he may have moved around for work.

What other information do you have on other siblings?

Here is Michael Quinlan born in 1831 in Ballyporeen. Mother is Margaret McGrath; sometimes Mary and Marg are confused in records, so I would not discount this one.

When you look at the parish register for the Michael Quinlan record located by Patricia, I think the name is actually Mary not Margaret.

As to “What other information do you have on other siblings?” by Roger McDonnell - and please lend any advice as I am new to messaging here.

Michael W. is likely Thomas’s (son to Thomas the gardener) brother. Michael W. started/grew a successful business in Brookline, MA. He and second wife Elizabeth Nugent had 9 children. Michael W.’s 1st wife died in labor (I believe) and her name was Francis “Franny” Pierce. I’ve attached a photo of the 9 children of Michael W. & Elizabeth’s.
