Thomas Gleeson from Dysart, Ruan, Clare

My great-grandfather Thomas Gleeson was born Nov. 29, 1865, in Crusheen, Clare, son of John Gleeson and Ellen Hurley, and was baptised Dec. 1, 1865, in Dysart, Ruan, Clare.

His brothers Patrick (b. 1869), Michael (b. about 1870), and Michael (b. about 1875) also emigrated to Kansas City, Mo., with Thomas in the late 1800s. His other siblings apparently stayed in Ireland (Bridget, Mary, John and William). William (b. 1873) married a Mary Callaghan and had a son, Thomas. William was buried in Mauricesmills, Dysart, Clare, in 1925.

Apparently Thomas Gleeson (b. 1865) had a cousin John Gleeson, born in 1874 in Dysart, Ruan, Clare, son of Thomas Gleeson and Bridget Hurley. He married an Ellen McCarthy and appears in the 1911 census for Carhoo, Dysert, Clare, living with his wife, chldren Bridget 4, Michael 3, and Martin 1, and his mother Bridget, 74.

I am interested in finding any Gleeson relatives who lived in this area. I would like to take a vacation to Ireland at some point.

Hi Alfred, I am looking at old queries and not sure if you have visited, you could post your info on the parish page on this website to see if anyone recognises the family.

There are also private Facebook pages dealing with Clare genealogy, some of them can be active in that responses are quick and those in the group are usually commited to join in the first place and there may be locals among them.

Enjoy your trip if not already enjoyed.

Regards

Pat
