Sligo Cathedral

Just now spotted this web site and thought I would check if you assist with specifics regarding genealogy. Specifically, the existence of a Memorial carving to the workers who perished during the building of the Sligo Cathedral in the mid-late 1800's. I have 3 relatives whom I believe are dedicated on that Memorial; Patrick & John Meehan and Peter Benson. Apparently they and several others were killed when the scaffolding they were working on collapsed. In the summer of 2024 my step-son visited Sligo and although did not find the Memorial, he was told by a group of local people that the Memorial may be wooden, not stone, and may be temporary housed in the main rector's office during the refurbishing of the Cathedral. That is about all I know at this point. Can you help.

We don't have a volunteer in Sligo Town. Can I suggest that you contact the Cathedral at info@sligocathedral.ie and see if they can assist with your question about the Memorial.

Roger, Thanks for the response.   I have attempted that route (and more) before but got no where. At one point I thought my email from USA was not being delivered to Ireland. My daughter and family will be visiting Ireland this summer but so far their plans are not firm so I don't know if they will head to Sligo or not.
