Sir John Benn Walsh Kerry Landlord

In the diaries of Sir John Benn Walsh, a Kerry landlord from 1820s to 1859s, he is often visiting Gortshanavoe. In Griffith's however he is not a landlord in Gortshanavogh. Just wondering what other town it might be? Here's an excerpt of his diary:

Thursday. The day was showery, but we proceeded first to Gortshanavoe & afterwards to Ballyduhig. At Gortshanavoe changes have taken place since last year. The fever & dysentery have made great work among my tenants in different places. Stack died of it. Michael Nowlan gives up his land & I emigrate him & we have got a promising new tenant, Dillane, for these two lots.

Thanks! Margaret Bradley

Margaret,

I found this information on Sir John Benn Walsh on the Journal of Cork Historical and Archeological Society website. You may have gotten your info from there. Gortshanavoe is mentioned 11 times. On pages 97, 114, and118 references to a name change are made Kilbee, Koilbee, and Kylbee. I think the Griffith Valuation below identifies Kylebwee where the Dillanes lived.
