Sinnott

Hi.

I have recently found a photo of my Great Aunt Johanna Sinnott.

Written on the back in her hand writing 'I got married on Saturday 17th January 1953'.

I know she was married to John Joseph Cushen  in 1927 and she used the name Cushen  until she died in 1984.

I have found a marriage record for Johanna E Sinnott  in the first quarter 1953 in Dublin but am unable to confirm if it is her.

This is as far as I have been able to go.

I would be very interested to know if this was possibly her.

Thank you for any help you might be able to supply me with.

Mick.

hi, This is the 1927 Marriage https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re… the 1953 marriage can you say the man's name? A bit hard to confirm, what year was Johanna Born? on the 1927 marriage it says she was from Crane, I have seen a Patrick Sinnott in Crane in 1911, Johanna is not listed. Only a Mary and three boys. Mother was Catherine nee Gainfort No results for a birth for Johanna. You say Johanna was your great Aunt, what is the name of her sibling.....your grandparent. Margot

Hi Margot Thanks for the link to the 1927 marriage. Johanna's death record states she was born 31st march 1900. I can't find a birth for her but I do have a baptism record in 1904 . Her sister my Grandmother Mary Kate was born 1908 and their parents were, Patrick Sinnott and Cathrine Gainfort. I don't have a name for the man in the 1953 marriage, only a date on the back of a photo. Thanks Mick

Mick, can you send the Baptism record. my email is marg2ade@yahoo.co.uk The marriage in 1953 in Dublin, lists several names to Johanna. As you don't know the man's name, I cannot guess. Thanks Margot

I think there is something unusual going on in this family.  At 1911 census Patrick and Catherine (nee GAINFORT who married in 1900) have four children listed:   There are birth records for three of them with mother maiden name GAINFORT, but no birth record for the fourth (Joseph born about 1905).  In addition you have a fifth child Johanna with birthdate 1900 who was baptised in 1904 (mother transcribed as SAMFORT, but could easily be a mistranscription of GAINFORT) and who doesn't appear on Census 1911.  However on Census 1911 mother Catherine is stated to be married 10 years (correct) but with only 3 children born (3 living). The three who were registered to mother Catherine nee GAINFORT are William, Mary Kate, and Michael.   I would seriously be wondering if neither Joseph nor Johanna were actually born to Catherine, but may have been born under a different surname and fostered or adopted by her and Patrick, although if Johanna was baptised by Patrick and Catherine she must have been part of their family before 1911.  I can't however find her with any other family.  It is possible that the Joseph on Census 1911 was misrecorded and should have been Johanna, but it still makes her an outsider in this family - not one of the three children of Catherine.  Once full baptism records become available for this time period you may be able to find out more.
