My husband Brian Wigmore's gr-gr-grandparents were Henry and Henrietta (nee Bradshaw) Wigmore son of Robert Wigmore and Ann Evans of Kilbarry.Parish of Condons and Clangribbons, Co Cork and Robert Bradshaw of Alleen and Mary Sadler, the second wife, Co Tipperary just across the border. We believe that Robert Wigmore had an elder brother William who married Sarah Harding and the senior branch of these Wigmores. They both leased properties under the three lives in fee simple titles. Henry was the second son of Robert and Ann born c 1880, the elder brother ,another William, was a Doctor of Medicine in Tipperary and had passed away before his Marriage. The Marriage of Henry and Henrietta was at Rathronan Parish Church June 1813,Co Tipperary. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters-Robert(Brian's gr-grandfather),Benjamin Bradshaw, Eliza-Anne,Georgina and Mary(Maria) Bradshaw Wigmore.Henry got into difficulties and was bankrupted in the 1850's. Robert left Gravesend, Scotland in Dec 1839 on the SS Liverpool bound for Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney Australia. He arrived in Auckland aboard the Diana in June 1840.
Henrietta Bradshaw was born c1878 in Tipperary and had 2 older half-brothers Benjamin Bennett and George from the first Marriage to Elizabeth Bennett and an older sister Elizabeth to Mary Sadler. She died in 1872 in Fermoy, Co Cork. All the children left Ireland and died in NZ.
Hi Marina, I sent you an email recently but must have had the wrong address as it came back to me marked 'unknown'. Don't know if I told you that I found that our Wigmores were descended from Capt. Thomas Boles of Co Cork. From memory I think he was born about 1608. If you look up his family tree you will find that one of his gt.grandaughters, Anne Boles, married Henry Wigmore of Ballyvoduck and they were the parents of Robert Wigmore who married Anne Evans. I meant to tell you this before but think I forgot. I presume that you have found the Will of Dr William Wigmore, can't remember whether I spoke of it to you before. If you would like to send me an email we could see if there is anything new we have. Regards, Ailsa MacRae
Hello - My name is Wiliam Francis Wigmore - DOB 11/14/1950 - I was born in Rockaway Beach Queens NYC - I was raised Catholic around a lot of Irish people. I feel and look Irish. I have only ben overseas once - a tour of Ireland. I felt right at home. We always figured that our name Wigmore was English - the old castle in Herford, and Wigmore Hall and all that. However, my DNA from ancestry.com says I am 98% Irish and 2% Scot. Interesting. Even that name Wigmore, while it doesn't sound Irish - is more of an old word than an English name. The PR person at Wigmore Hall wrote to me and said the name of Wigmore Street was ginve by Harley - of Harley Street to replace a German name. He looked around for a name that sounded English. End of the day I guess i am Irish by blood.....
