Seeking the County Fermanagh origins of my Great-Great Grandmother Bridget Owens Dougherty

I'm form the D.C area in the U.S and am, of course, doing genealogical research on the various branches of my paternal family tree that stem from Ireland. (Counties Fermanagh, Leitrim & Tipperary) This post regards the branch from County Fermanagh. My great-great-grandmother Bridget Owens was born on Mar 20, 1873 to William Owens and Anna Drumm and immigrated to Chicago, Illinois, USA in the early 1890s. (according to her death certificate, she immigrated in 1893 but on the 1930 Federal Census it says 1890}. She married Edward Thomas Dougherty in April 1895, and had 4 children, including my great-grandmother Margaret Ann Dougherty, born in 1896. She passed away in the Chicago area (Evergreen Park) on Mar 26, 1936. Although there does seem to be an 1855 marriage record for a William Owen and Anna Drumm in Kinawley, I'm not sure if this fits my family's timeline. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much.

Hi Rosie,

Can you let us know where you got the birth date of Bridget Owens? And where you got the names of the parents? Do you have her birth record? Marriage record naming her parents? Thank you.

Note that the transcription of Bridget's marriage record (from Ancestry) says she was born in 1869. She may have been born then, maybe not.  The Irish at the time were not in touch with their birthdays the way we are today. We often see a variation of ages for the same person, for example, in census records.

Thanks to all who responded to this post. To Patricia, I got Bridget's 1873 birth date from calculating her age from her death certificate, which is also from where I got her parents names. An 1873 birth year is also supported by her age stated on the 1910 federal census, however, as you stated, a birth year of 1869 is certainly supported by the age stated on Bridget and Edward's marriage certificate, as well as the 1920 census, but the 1930 census would make for a birth year of 1871. Elwyn, thank you for taking the time to share all the detailed links for the Owens family localities, census and Valuation info, I know it'll be so valuable in helping me along in my research. Mary TV, thanks to you as well for sharing the Baptism details from RootsIreland, it's so very useful. I'm so grateful to all of you for your thoughtfulness and taking the time to help me along in my research.
