Ann Costello Earl Gray Orphan arrived at 16 years old to Australia in 1849

Our data base states:

From Loughrea Galway Workhouse.

Parents both Deceased John Costello and Mary Costello

All Roman Catholic

Ann could read and write

Ship she sailed- Inchennan

I am having trouble identifying Loughrea in this data base.

Would like to findout if she had other family. She had no one related in Australia at the time. Thanks in advance.

Subscription Site www.rootsireland.ie has a record of the birth of Anne Costello on October 1st 1832. Father: John Costello and Mary ---.

Baptised in Loughrea on October 2nd 1832. I will check for a marriage of John Costello and Mary and get back to you.

Roots Ireland has a record of the marriage of a John Costello and Mary Redington on October 2nd 1822 in Loughrea.

Witnesses: Thomas Mannion and Nancy Houghegan

Baptism of a John Costello in Loughrea on June 20th 1823. Father: John Costello and Mother: Mary Redingrton.

Sponsor: Catherine Redington.

Loughrea is between the town of Galway and Ballinasloe.

The mother of Anne Costello is recorded as "Rodenlon" which appears to be an incorrect transcription of "Redington".

Civil records in Ireland are from January 1st 1864, with the exception of Protestant Marriages which are from 1845.

Thankyou for your efforts it is very much appreciated. I am currently working on Anne's husband here in Australia but can not find to much so far.

Anne and her husband had an Inn outside the town of Merriwa N.S.W

I am realising she was a remarkable women. Anne's faith was passed down each generation. I will try to learn more about her and the family she left, all alone at. 16 and in a strange new country and how she persisted.

There are trees on Ancestry with your Ann Costello. Was her husband Peter Barry.? According to one of the trees Peter was born in Dublin in 1824, arrived in Australia Sept. 9, 1850, married in 1853, and died in Melbourne in 1879. They suggest his parents were David Barry and Elizabeth Ward.

Per RootsIreland (paid Subscription) John and Mary (Reddington) Costello had two other children born in Loughrea- John- 1823 and Mary 1828.
