Searching for Quigley's

I am searching for the Quigley family, they were possibly a Sept within the O'Donnell clan, although that is just what I have been led to believe. They ancestor I am looking for was a parent to my Great Grandfather, James Alonzo Quigley, who was born in Canada in 1847, possibly in Quebec. He was brought to the USA about 1850, and settled in NYC. He became a NYC Policeman, and around 1880 married Kathryn Byrnes (Burns). They had a large family and lived in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York City. He died approx. 1818. Any clues would be helpful and much appreciated.

Sorry, I said he died before he was born. He died approximately 1918. My apologies.

You need to get the birth cert and death cert. for James. That info will have the parents name. You're trying to start in Ireland, but you need to work backwards from NYC to Canada, Quigs.
