Searching for the Murray Family

I'm researchingthe history of my Great Grandmother, Bridget Mary Murray. This is what I know so far.:

She was born September 29th, 1883, the 14th child of James and Mary Murray.

She began work as a housekeeper at 16 years old. She walked to her job as a maid to a large, rich family for 2 1/2 years.

Her parents had arranged for her to court a man named Danny Fitzbiggons who was 40 years old and had a home. Bridget would not hear of it.

In 1907, with the help of a cook at the mansion she worked at, she got on a ship and left for America. She arrived in Ellis Isand July 21, 1907.

She had an older brother Christopher, who left Ireland in 1904 and ived in New Haven, Ct.. I know she had a brother named James.

I do not know any of her other brothers or sisters name. I would LOVE to know where her family lived and if there are any Murrays still in the area.

If she had to walk to her job outside of Dublin, am I to assume she was from County Dublin ? I cannot find her in the 1901 census as the " youngest child". Her last living daughter, my Great Aunt has given me this information

Thanks for ANY help....

Hi from Dublin Ireland,

I found a Mary Bridget Murray b.1883 Baptised at St Andrews Westland Row Dublin. She lived at 14 Georges Street East, her dad is named as John Murray and her mam is named as Mary Nash. Her Godmother or Sponser was a Julia Dwyre.I looked at the 1901 census of Dublin, she would have left Ireland by then as she was now 18.

Could this be your Ancestor. There are Hundreds of Murrays in Ireland.

Regards,

Kaye.

Hi Kaye,

Could it be ?? Thank yoiu SO much for looking. !!!!

Last night, I found her immigration records into Ellis Island, USA. She arrived in Ellis Island on July 21, 1907 along with her brother James, on a ship called The Celtic.

So, she should be listed on the 1901 Ireland census.

I spoke to my Great Aunt Margaret again. She is 85. She "thinks" that her Mom told her that she was born in Strawberry Beds. Is that in Dublin ?

Oh, I am so excited to think that this might be her.

Yes her mother's name was Mary but Aunt Margaret is just certain that her father's name was James and not John. Hmmmmm

I so appreciate your help because there ARE so many Murrays in Ireand AND so many Bridget Murrays. :) I just hope I can find the right one.

Does what you found show any siblings?

Again, thank you so much for looking.

Hi,

Useing your information and your Aunts,I think I found Bridget.Your Aunt said she worked in a mansion home, well I think I found her in the 1901 Census. She is working as a housemaid at the time of the Census so she has been included.

So in the 1901 Census look for Albert Reynolds at 10 Beadwinston or Baldwinston,Garristown Town Balrothery West, this may be the family she worked for.It looks like it.The house is on the North side of Dublin.

The Strawberry Beds is in Co Dublin, not too far from where I live.Ask your Aunt, was Bridget born there or just Christened in that Parish.

As a matter of interest there were a good few Murrays living in Garristown in that time.

Some of the Rynolds family are buried in Garristown Cemetery,as are some Murrays.

Regards,

Kaye.
