Hi Nancy
I found a record on rootsireland births/baptisms of John Fitzgerald 1754 Limerick. It is a baptism not birth so the year could be right or there could have been a bit of inaccuracy back then.
I used to be able to attach the file but am now getting an error message.
If you go to rootsireland.ie and find the record you can then purchase it to get the parish and parents' names. You can then search rootsireland for Fitzgeralds with no first name entered but the parent's names entered.
I hope this makes sense.

Hi Nancy,
At the time of the 1901 census there are 26 Fitzgeralds list for Rathkeale.
These may or may not be related to your John Fitzgerald, but it is worth exploring.
The Church of Ireland in Rathkeale is called Holy Trinity

Recently the nearby Nantinan graveyard in Rathkeale was surveyed with some Fitzgerald headstones. Here is the list of Fitzgeralds buried there.
I suggest you make contact with Rev Keith Scott as some C of I churches have earlier records than Catholic churches.
Be aware that a reply may take some time. Please let us know how you get on.
Best of Luck
Nancy, John Fitzergerald of Limerick and Waldoboro (wife: Sophia Schenck) is also my great, great, great + grandfather. I'm wondering if you've discovered any more about his forbears in Limerick? My father has done a lot of research on his life in Maine but we don't have any info about his roots in Ireland. Would welcome anything you've learned....
Thanks very much,
Carrie Thompson
Hi, John Fitzgerald (1751-1838) was my 6th great-grandfather through his daughter Sarah Andrews. I notice that on Ancestry many his trees have his parents as John Fitzgerald and Mary Magennis, with no sources listed!! And then others continue to copy that information. Does anyone know where this info comes from? Thanks. Matthew Jude Barker, Portland, Maine, genealogist, Maine Irish Heritage Center
