Searching for information David Barry Carrigaline, County Cork.

Cork

Hello Everyone,
I hope I can find a clue for information on my 2nd great grandfather names David Barry. I have found he was born in 1821, married Johanna Halloran, had 4 children, Hannah, Patrick, Daniel and Nora. They came from Carrigaline area about the 1880's. David Barry must have stayed or returned to Carrigaline area when he past away, His wife Johanna past away in 1898 in Massachusetts. Patrick Barry, my great grandfather married Abby Condron and had 3 boys David, John and James. David and John Barry had their own families and John lived south of Boston. Abby passed away from a problem pregnancy. Patrick remarried and had a daughter Mary Ellen. Patrick lived in Cambridge and the Boston area.

I have a family tree on ancestry.com and am seeking information on David and any additional information going back about Davids parents. I have found many possible genetic matches that are 3rd to 5th cousins so David Barry must have other relatives. Anyone who wants to know more, please feel free to email me directly at Irishbodyguard@gmail.com Thank you for any help that can be provided.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and found the 1843 marriage record in the RC parish of Clontead.

Area - CORK & ROSS (RC) , Parish/Church/Congregation - CLONTEAD

Marriage of DAVID BARRY of N/R and JONNA HOLLARAN of N/R on 29 January 1843

I located baptismal records for five children are in Carragline RC parish: David June 25 1854 (baptismal date) Daniel March 19 1862 Patrick March 13 1857 Hanora June 15 1859 Johanna August 1850 (no day info provided). Since David and Johanna married in 1843, you would have expected more children from 1843-1849.

There were many Barrys listed in the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Carragline civil parish but no David.  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/carrigaline.htm Likely he was a very small farmer and not listed in the Griffiths.

Likely David died in Ireland before the children emigrated. Civil registration of deaths started in 1864 and from 1864-1877 we only have index records. www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free site which has the index records plus death record images from 1878-1969.

Kevin:

The records for Carrigaline RC parish start in 1826 so if David Barry was born in 1821and baptized in that parish, a baptismal record would not be available. The Clontead records start in 1808 but there was no David Barry baptismal reocrd in that parish around 1821. (You indicated that he was born in 1821 so I assumed you had a baptismal record).

Roger,

The date of birth of 1821 was from other records I saw on ancestry.com It could be as late as 1826. I will run a search and find out.
