Searching for Patrick Glynn
Hello,
my 3rd great grandfather Patrick Glynn ca1820-d1874 emigrated from Ireland - parish unknown - to the U.S. in 1850 with his spouse Mary ca1822-1901 - birth name unknown.
I have records of their farm and land transactions in the 1868-1890s in East Cleveland, Ohio as well as records of farm operations from 1880 US Census of Agriculture. They had two sons, James William Glynn (1858-1917) and John Glynn (1859-1903). Glynn Road, adjacent to a section of the city owned by John D Rockefeller called Forest Hills, was named for the small12 acre total plots that the Glynn’s farmed and subsequently developed as an early suburban development.
Despite the detailed record in the US, as is frequently the case the trail has run completely dry pre-1860. It’s possible but unlikely that Patrick and family served as lighthouse keepers on South Manitou Island, Michigan in 1859-60, although the dates of birth of the children don’t align with sources.
Family lore had it that the family name McGlynn was dropped with emigration, as was public acknowledgement of being Catholic.
Not much to go on, but perhaps certain of these details survived with my Glynn cousins in Ireland.
