Searching for Moloney and Moore families, Waterford City, County Waterford

I’m searching for information on the family of my great grandmother Margaret Mary Josephine Moloney (b 3 Apr 1871 Broad St Waterford). Margaret migrated to Australia in 1888 telling descendants she had no family left in Ireland. Margaret married in Queensland in 1892, having 4 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 2 Sept 1918 Cunnamulla Queensland.

On Margaret’s BC her parents were John Moloney and Bridget formerly Moore. Margaret’s parents married after her birth, on 20 July 1875, St Patrick RC Chapel, Holy Trinity Parish, Waterford. John’s occupation was Stevedore. When he died (15 Feb 1883, Castle Street, Waterford), John was a Relieving Officer at the Waterford Workhouse.DC indicates his birth was about 1843. Bridget was the informant on the DC. Children of the marriage were Margaret, Mary (b 15 May 1876), Richard (b 6 Jun 1877 d 18 Sept 1877), John (b 16 Jul 1878 d 11 Oct 1893) and Patrick (b 18 Jan 1880 d 10 Aug 1880).

On John and Bridget’s marriage certificate, John’s father was Richard Moloney, farmer and Bridget’s father was Partick Moore, tailor. Some research indicates Bridget was baptised in Ferrybank, Slieverue parish 4 Jun 1848. However, I have not been able to find any further information on Richard or Patrick on Ancestry, Irish Genealogy.ie and Find My Past. I’d appreciate any help and guidance in locating any records on Richard Moloney or Patrick Moore and their families.

I’m also keen to locate death records of Bridget Moore and her daughter Mary to support family understanding that Margaret had no family left in Ireland. I’ve not been able to find any records on the abovementioned sites.

Many thanks for any assistance.

Hi,

Margaret's death record on Ancestry shows Bridget's last name as Clancy. Is that incorrect? Witnesses to Bridget Moore's 1875 marriage were James and Mary Clancy.

Patrick's death and birth records from Irishgenealogy

. When John and Bridget (Moore) were married in 1875, she was a lodge keeper on Barronstrand St.

Hi MaryTV

Thanks for your response. Yes, there is some connection with Mary and James Clancy and Patrick's BC does give Bridget's maiden name as Clancy, as does Margaret's DC. However BC's of Bridget's other children  (Margaret, Mary, Richard and John) and her MC have Moore as her maiden name.

I have not yet researched Bridget's connection with Mary and James Clancy of Barronstrand St. Currently I wonder if the Clancy's supported Bridget in her pregnancy with Margaret and afterwards until her marriage. Margaret told family in Australia that Clancy was her mother's maiden name and only recently have we found her actual maiden name was Moore.

James and Mary could have been siblings or married. On RootsIreland (paid subscription), I found a marriage record for a James Clancy and Mary Dunphy at St. Patrick in 1861, in Waterford. I have checked RootsIreland for baptism records for Richard (4 names) and Patrick (13 names). I don't have enough info to verify any are yours.

Hi MaryTV

Thanks for information on the Clancys. Quite right they could be siblings but the marriage is one definitely to be checked out.

I don't have much information on Richard and Patrick apart from what is on Bridget and John's MC. I have details of a Patrick Moore and Cathie Mackey and family in Ferrybank Slieverue, but not sure if it is correct family.

Seems I need a subscription to RootsIreland.

Many thanks

Hi Patricia

I'm pretty certain Mary is Margaret's younger sister.

Maggie Moloney aged 17 was a remittance migrant to Queensland in 1888. This fits with a birth in 1871. She went by name Margaret or Maggie in Queensland. While her 1871 BC suggests her parents were married, perhaps this was to hide Bridget's unmarried state. Also we have a later MC for John and Bridget in 1875.

Many thanks
