Searching for Bracken & Lynch Relatives
Hello,
I am traveling to Ireland in November 2025 for the first time and was hoping I may have some family in Ireland on either my maternal or paternal side.
My maiden name is Deborah Lynch. My great grandfather was William Patrick Lynch. According to his naturalization papers he was born 3/1/1878 and lived in Listowel. I was unable to locate his birth certificate on the Ireland Civil Registries. He may have had a brother named Garrett.
According to his marriage certificate his parents were Patrick Lynch and Mary Garrin. He took the Lucania from Queenstown and arrived in New York City May 27, 1899.
He married Katherine Mahoney in New York City on May 2, 1903. Her parents were listed as Martin Mahoney and Mary Flaherty. Both born in Ireland but I do not have any specific information regarding the county. They had 6 sons: Patrick, Martin, John, William (my grandfather),Denis and Gerald. All deceased in New York. I have been unable to locate my great grandfather’s death certificate but he died in May 1962 in New York and Katherine died May 1959 in New York. I am waiting for receipt of her death certificate. William Lynch, my grandfather, married Rose Mary O’Keefe and had my dad, Gerald Lynch. Thankfully still with us at age 90.
My great grandfather on my maternal side is Francis X Bracken.
He was born 2/22/1871 in Templemore and died 7/28/1916 in New York. He married Ella/Ellen O’Sullivan 8/22/1897 in New York. Francis X Bracken’s parents may be Patrick Bracken and Anna Hennessy. Potential parents of Anna are Thomas Hennessy and Catherine Whelan. Francis X and Ellen had three children: Evelyn, Francis Joseph ( my grandfather) and Marion. My grandfather, Francis J, was born in New York in 1900 and died in1958.
Most of the history I obtained regarding Francis X. Bracken was obtained from books about Brendan Bracken, considered the right hand of Winston Churchill, who was my grandfather’s first cousin. My grandfather Francis J. Bracken married Anna Edmonds and had mother, Ellen Bracken.
My mother sadly has passed, but she did correspond with Cora Dunlop who was Brendan Bracken’s half sister. Cora came to New York and found my mother in the 1950s and my parents visited her at her estate in Ireland in1959. My father believes it was near Dublin but he is not certain. I would love to see if the estate still stands. We have photographs of my parents stay there.
It would be wonderful to find out if I have any relatives in Ireland. We are staying in Dingle one night, Killarney for two nights and Dublin for three nights.
Please let me know if you need any further information from me. I am constantly checking the ancestry sites looking for more facts.
Thank you,
Deborah Wagner
