Hi Laura, I’m in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.
Rúairí "Roger" Faherty/Flaherty is in my tree.
I’ve DNA matches through the descendants of Rúairí Roger Faherty/Flaherty I. I also have DNA matches to the Connoley/Conley/Connelly/ Ó Conghaile family connected to the Roger’s Faherty/Flaherty mob.
See attached screen shot from my tree.
I’m in search of my maternal Great Grandmother’s true identity and history. One of her names is Barbara Connolly/Conneely/Conley/Connoley etc.
Barbara’s maiden name differs on various colonial documents. Recorded on her marriage certificate in 1864, at Ballarat, as Barbara Connoley, born abt 1839, Galway, Ireland. Her life in Victoria is a rags to riches to rags story, her court appearances for being a drunken disorderly prostitute are chronicled in newspaper articles up to her death as a pauper in 1878.
Barbara’s early life, and when she arrived in Australia is unknown. I get the feeling Barbara has brushed her tracks, what little information exists is ambiguous and possibly contradictory. Although Barbara’s branch is a "dead end", shared DNA matches of distant cousins indicate a common ancestor connected Roger’s family.
Are you a member of Ancestry or MyHeritage? Is your atDNA uploaded?
