Rooney from Athenrye

I am looking for any information on the Rooney (Runoe) family from Rahard, Athenrye, County Galway. My great grandfather was Dominic Rooney, born around 1869-1872. His father was Thomas Rooney and his mother was Honor Cloran or KIlloran. He had 7 brothers and 1 sister. His brother's names were Martin, Matthew, John, John, Michael, Thomas and John. It seems that 2 of the John's passed away as babies. the sister's name was Bridget. My grandfather, Dominic, came to America in 1892. We were wondering if any of his brothers or his sister stayed in Ireland or if they left Ireland. Any information about the Rooney family would be appreciated. Thank you!

I found a number of church baptismal record for siblings to Dominic but not a record for Dominic. Als0, the surname is spelled Roonoe in the records. Matthew 1859 Martin 1859 (twins?) John 1860 Bridget 1861 John 1862 Michael 1866 Thomas 1871 John 1873 The Athenry records start in August 1858 and it is possible that Dominic was born prior to August 1858.

I located the 1901 census record which shows Nora (Honor) with Martin and John

Hi Patty - I think that my great-grandfather was Dominck's brother, Martin Joseph Rooney.  That would make us thirrd cousins.  Our branch of the family migrated to Waltham, Massachusetts, USA in the 1920's.  My grandmother was Bridget (Delia) Hynes, also from Rahard, Athenry, County Galway.  I 've pieced together a lot of the family history, Contact me at mbelliveau@roadrunner,com for more information.  Be well!  Mike Belliveau
