Hi Roger,
Thanks so much for your response. No, Richard Moloney and Margaret Hutchinson, it is assumed, were married in Ireland. Their daughter, Ellen Mary Moloney married in Geelong Australia on 5th August 1872. She had migrated and appears to have arrived in Australia C 1870. She may have travelled on the ship Corona which left London via Plymouth on 25th April 1870. This has not been verified. At the time of her marriage Ellen gave the following details which we can only assume to be truthful and accurate.
Father's name: Richard Moloney, Occupation: Ironmonger, Address: Castleconnell, Ireland
Mother's name: Margaret Hutchinson
At that time, Ellen gave her age as 24 years and classed herself as a spinster lady born in O'briensbridge, Ireland.
To confuse the issue, at the time of the birth of her eldest daughter and youngest son, Ellen gave her place of birth as Limerick. Further, at the time of her death, her birth place was given as Cork. Death details can be heresay.
A local newspaper article at the time of Ellen's marriage reads, inter alia,: " Ellen Mary Hutchinson, eldest daughter of Richard Moloney, Limerick, and granddaughter of Capt. Hutchinson, Cragine Castle, Mount Hutchinson, County of Cork, Ireland."
I am advised that Limerick Church Baptism records have a Richard Moloney being born in 1810, 1811, 1814, 1816 1820. These same records have a Margaret Hutchinson being born in 1819.
Limerick Church marriage records 1842 have a Richard Moloney (M) Margaret.
I have been unable to verify any of this information. Hopefully you may have better access to records.
On her arrival in Aust. Ellen stayed with a family with the surname "Leihy". A daughter from that family, Catherine Margaret Leihy" was the bridesmaid at Ellen's wedding. Catherine's grandmothers maiden name was, Catherine Moloney born O'briensbridge in 1815. The dates and locations for the births of this Catherine Moloney and the Richard Moloney I am pursuing, suggest that they may be related, possibly. brother and sister.
To date I have not taken up the D N A option.
I would be most grateful if you could use this info to possibly follow the issue further.
A very appreciative,
Terracan
