Richard Greenan and Jane Bennett

Hello kind folks of Ireland XO,

My 3rd GGrandparent’s Richard Greenan and Jane Bennett, were born in Ireland but I’m not sure where. I do know that they were married on October 24,1862 in Carrigallen (diocese of Kilmore), per Catholic Parish Registers 1655-1915. Also, written on the marriage register it says Corglass. I believe Jane was born in May 1848 and Richard around 1839.

By 1871, the couple was living in Scotland and then in 1884 they immigrated to the USA.

Richard Greenan’s parents are William Greenan and Ann McGinty. I believe that William was born around 1814 and Ann around 1818.

Jane Bennett’s parents are Thomas Bennett and Ailene Quayle. I have no idea when they were born.

I’m hoping that you could possibly find some early life information about Richard Greenan and/or Jane Bennett. And, I’m hoping even more that maybe you could find some evidence of William Greenan & Ann McGinty and/or Thomas Bennett & Ailene Quayle living in the Carigallen area.

Thank you so much,

Phyllis Lundeen

I found some records on RootsIreland (paid subscription). William and Ann had a son John baptized in Monaghan Oct. 8, 1842. They were married in Donagh, Kilmore Parish, Monaghan on February 2, 1837.

As you mentioned above Jane and Richard were married in 1862.

Dear MaryTV and Elwyn,

Thank you so very, very much for finding all of the information above. I am so happy to learn all of this, and I think it’s really wonderful that you found the exact plot of land (and what it contained) that Richard leased.

I hope to be able to get to Ireland in Spring 2026 and hopefully get to the Carrigallen area and see where my ancestors walked.

I really appreciate your helpfulness and I’m very appreciative that you volunteer your time with IrelandXO.

Thank you so much,

Phyllis Lundeen
