Researching BELTON

I am trying to discover more about my ancestor John Belton, born Kings co.(Offaly) July 18, 1806. As far as I can determine it looks like he emigrated to Canada sometime between 1829 and 1832. He married Ann Manly, born 1801 from Wicklow.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland and they did not have any John Belton baptismal records from 1801-1811.

The 1828 Tithe listings for Kings Co. showed that most of the Beltons were in Durrow or Kilbride parishes.

I suggest that you look for his parents names in Canadian records such as the death record for John or other sources.

Hi, I am also interested in the Beltons of Durrow and Kilbride (Tullamore) I have quite a bit of information, but I can't quite tie it all together. I am looking to collaborate.

Hello Lynn,

This reply comes many years after your initial post.  John Belton was my 3rd great grandfather.  His daughter Fanny married Edward Underwood in Canada and they moved to Michigan.  My great grandmother Fanny Underwood married Christian Roese. They're son Frank Roese was my mothers father.  I would be happy to share information and collaborate with you.  I too am a little challenged researching the Beltons.  I had put it aside for many years until recently and found this post on a google search.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts,
