RESEARCH JEFFREY O'CONNELL/FALVEY/ROSS

I am Mari Claassen de Vries from South Africa. Good day, I am seeking advice on the following matter, please. Found information about a marriage between a Jeffrey O'Connell and Hannah Falvey. Their first child Michael was baptised 1797. Unable to find further information. Michael is a family name. I am a descendant of a Jeffrey O'Connell born abt. 1750 who married Elizabeth Ross of Kent,UKin 1804. He was an old man when he married Elizabeth and named their first child Michael b. 1804. My problem now is to find whether this is the same person married twice and what happened to Hannah Falvey and their child, Michaelbaptised in 1797. If Hannah and baby Michael died, was it an Irish custom to name the next child Michael again? .I have now reached the proverbial brick wall. Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated. I thank you. Kind regards, Mari

Hi Marie,

Where were Jeffrey and Hannah married? and where was their first child Michael born? I have Falvey's in my tree who were from Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland.

I also have another Irish ancestral family (19th century) who named their first child Michael, after the child's paternal grandfather. After this child died as an infant, they then named their second child Michael. Obviously it was important for the father to keep his father's name going. This was a fairly common practice in Ireland.
