Reilly Co Meath

Hi, My GGfather was Terrence Francis Reilly b.1820...he drove a dray wagon as a boy from Kells to Dublin...does it stand to reason that his family would live in Kells?  Or closer to Athboy since Michael (his father) is buried there? or why buried in Athboy if they live in Kells?

Father: Michael Reilly b.1782 (Fraine Townland) - d.1838 buried in Athboy - Blacksmith

Mother:  Rose Tully b.1891

son: Thomas b.1817

son: Terrence Francis b.1820

son: Michael b.1822

daughter: Rose b.1824

Rose and her 4 adult children left for NY on the ship Soldan July 1847

                                         -------- * ---------

I couldn't find records of the family in Ireland (except burial record of Michael)

Any information is appreciated, thank you, Lynn (Reilly) Coleman

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, I've had no sucess locating your ancestors in Ireland. I tried different variants of the name but with no luck.

You mentioned that Rose and her 4 adult children left for NY on the ship Soldan July 1847. I found that record on Family Search under United States Famine Irish Passenger Index, 1846-1851 under the name of Ryley. However, it only gives initials for 1st names, has no images and lists 7 people with the name Ryley . Names are as folows:

R Ryley b circa 1827

T Ryley b circa 1817

E Ryley b circa 1821

M Ryley b circa 1824

B Ryley b circa 1825

C Ryley v circa 1826

J Ryley b circa 1822

Sorry that I could not be of more help to you.

Kind regards

Bernie

Hi Bernie, You are good with your sleuthing!  That is my family....I am fairly certain....I found this some years back.  Besides the initials being correct for the given names with age  dates following, the name following the family on the list was R. Tully....a female....that probably was a relative...a niece or aunt maybe?  My 2xGGmother (the matriarch of the family) was Rose (Tully) Reilly.   The 'E' Ryley was actually F Ryley....that was my GGfather, Francis....his first name was really Terrence but he went by Frank or Francis.  He became the Justice of the Peace (appointed by the govenor) in the state of Illinois where they settled and farmed, some hundreds of acres.

Thank you for writing!  I wish I knew more about these people! Lynn (Reilly) Coleman

Hi Lynn, My great-great-grandfather was Francis Reilly (O'Reilly) not sure when he was born but he married Margaret Hurst in December 1860 in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh.  I have a copy of the marriage record and his father's name was Michael Reilly.  Then I have a DNA cousin and her great-great-grandfather's name was Thomas Reilly and on his death certificate it lists his parents as Michael Reilly and Catherine Gilbert both born in Ireland but it doesn't state where in Ireland.  Given that she is a DNA cousin and has a Michael Reilly, I think the link between myself and the DNA 4th cousin is with Michael Reilly.

So I have been searching for a Michael Reilly born in possibly Co. Fermanagh, Co. Cavon or Co. Leitrim in about 1770-1800 with a son named Francis and a son named Thomas and potentially a mother named Catherine. So now I wonder if the Michael Reilly you mentioned could be the same Michael Reilly or if in your research for your Michael Reilly whether you came across my potential Michael Reilly's information?  My Francis Reilly never immigrated to the USA and died in Cootehill, Monaghan in 1895.  I don't think my Francis Reilly was from Monaghan because he was living with his daughter and son-in-law when he died and his son-in-law and daughter were married and lived in Enniskillen, Fermanagh before moving to Cootehill, Monaghan.
