I am looking for the birth details of Laurence/ Lawrence John born about 1885. He moved to Blackpool and married Alice Cardwell in 1915. His marriage certificate shows him as John Powers, his address as Central Drive Blackpool/ Bachelor/ Private 8th Irish Liverpool Regiment Blacksmith. Father John Powers deceased Blacksmith. Witnesses Charles Aspley & Agnes Aspley.

His obituary 4th December 1947 at age 62 suggest he was Irish and Catholic, as follows: Laurence John Powers (Paddy) and the acknowledgment by his widow Alice thanks the Catholic father. They had a daughter irene who was born in Blackpool in 1921.

I need help finding his place and date of birth, his mother's name and if possible his service rcords as a Private in WW1.

Can I suggest that you go to this free site www.irishgenealogy.ie  hit the TAB for civil records and search for his civil birth record. More then likely he was from the south Tipperary/Waterford/Wexford area.  Also, the surname was probably Power in Ireland. I would search in the 1880s for Laurence Power first and look for the records where there is a father John. The fact that you don't know have the mother's name will make it tough to verify the correct record. There are 23 Laurence Power civil birth records in the 1880s. If he was registered under the name John Power, your search will be a lot more complicated because of the sheer numbers of John Power records.

Not sure where you live but I would access a subscription site ( Ancestry?) that provides info on British military records.
