Potential GG GP Townland in County Westmeath

Hello,  I located a headstone from St. Mary's Cemetery in Camden, New Jersey belonging to John Maher. The inscription states that he is from County Westmeath, Ireland but I can not make out the listed Townland.

I did a research on Townlands in Westmeath but can not match any to the listed Townland on the Headstone.  Wondering if anyoone could help in identifying the Townland listed on the headstone.

Thanks in advance,

Denny McFadden

Could you spell out the name as the image is not very clear. There is not enough contrast in the image.

Hi Eileen. Thanks for your reply. My issue is that I can’t  decipher the Townland name. Everything else I can determine what it reads.

john Mayer is the brother of my GG GM Alice Maher. I have no information about her in Ireland. She settled in Camden, New Jersey and married James Coleman in 1856.

I think you need to improve the quality of the epitaph by trying one of these methods

If there is any way to enhance the writing , I am sure the placename can be found.  See what you can do and try again.

This photo was a hint on Ancestry from Find a Grave. Hopefully I will be able to go to the cemetery and see the tombstone in person.

Thank you so much Eileen. I was close but off by a few letters. I found the following:

Dalnicarrica

is a historic barony located in County Westmeath, Ireland,. The area has a rich past, deeply rooted in the history of the Kingdom of Meath.

Here's what you need to know about Dalnicarrica:

  • Location: County Westmeath, Ireland.
  • History: The barony was once part of the ancient Kingdom of Meath.
  • Notable association: The Nugent family, prominent in Irish history, held lands in Delvin (formerly part of the barony) from the late 12th century.
  • Significance: Dalnicarrica's history is intertwined with the larger narrative of medieval Ireland and the Norman influence on the region.

Thank you Eileen & Roger.  My research for the Barony / Townland of DALNICARRICA in Westmeath is not showing up anywhere.  So my assumption is that the spelling / translation from John to whomever had the headstone made was incorrect.

I'm believe that John Maher was my GG GM Alice M Maher (Coleman) brother based on the facts that they both settled in Camden, New Jersey and lived close to each other.

Research will continue.

Sincerely

Denny McFadden
