Plunkett - O'Reilly Family Relationships

I was wondering if there are any "local legends" concerning the connection between these two families, specifically, did an O'Reilly ever take the last name of Plunkett to maintain his land ownership? I am also looking for the parents and/or parish of John Plunkett, born 1824 in Co.Cavan. Thank you for any help you can provide!
