I am trying to locate the parents of my 2nd Great-Grandfather Peter Garvey, who was born in County Armagh circa 1843.
He immigrated to the U.S. 1855-1860 & lived in Baltimore with his probable Uncle, James Garvey B.C.1811 in County Armagh.
Peter had relative connections to Philadelphia & New York, per his 1889 obituary in Baltimore.
Lionheart7,
Do you have a copy of Peter's death record? They often include the parents' names. You can request one from the State of Maryland.
Regards- Mary
In the 1850 census James Garvey is married to Alice. Their oldest son was James. born abt. 1838 in Pennsylvania. By 1843 they were living in Maryland. James was a hack owner. Alice died in 1853. Per FindAGrave, she was born in Armagh about 1811.
Per the 1860 census, Peter was living with James, born in Ireland, abt 1841. He also was a hackman. He married Mary Hogan abt. 1862. In 1860 a Catherine Garvey was also living with James. She was born about 1835 in Ireland. She was not in the 1850 census. So, I am not sure James is her father or relative?? She was 15 in 1850 so she might have been working at another household and came home when her mother died?? Peter might be her brother??
Just some thoughts- Mary
