Patrick Queenan/Cunnane - b. 1814

Boyle (Roscommon)Killaraght (Sligo)Tawnagh (Sligo)

I am looking for information on Patrick Queenan, my 2X Great Granfathers who possibly came from the Roscommon area or the bordering parishes in Sligo. He was born circa 1814 and it is believed that his father was also named Patrick.  He left ireland between 1838 and 1840 and married Mary Howard in Derby, England in June of 1840. They had several children together in Derby (Mary 1841, Michael 1843, Bridget 1845, James 1848, Joseph 1852 ) and he left his family for destinations unknown shortly after Joseph's birth. It is not known if he died or emigrated to the US or other parts of England. I have DNA connections with Queenan families  in the Killraght area of Sligo, and also Taunagh in Sligo...but have been unable to connect to Patrick. Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Welcome, there are records for 4 Patrick with father Patrick in church records, two in each county, the records for most parishes are probably non existant so it would be a guess, mothers were given are Connors; Commons; Donagher; McGuan (maybe McGowan) fathers are Cornelius; Bernard; and Michael X 2. Years 1810; 1811; 1817 & 1818:

As you have done DNA there are a number of closed Facebook pages doing genealogy for local areas and some are DNA based on Gedmatch projects but as something I have done myself most people are in your boat stuck in the same timeframe looking for common surnames but may be worth considering.

Hi Pat...thanks for your prompt reply...for some reason, I didn't see it right away. Are you saying these are baptismal records. I am looking for baptismal records and the years you have quoted are in the correct range, but if they were PAtrick Queenan or Cunnane with a father PAtrick...why have you mentioned other names of fathers. And in which counties are you referring to.

I will try to crosscheck the information in Roots IReland to see if I can sort out what you are actually saying. yes I have some DNA results but only on Ancestry, although I have also posted them to Gedmatch...which has led me to the counties of Sligo and Roscommon...likely in the border parishes. Appreciate the help but it is still an enigma.

Sandi, I must apologise, I can only assume I meant to say no father Patrick, I did search Roots and there are other births also but no father Patrick, I did see one in Westmeath mother Catherine Flood but it is at the entirely wrong end of Westmeath to be considered. 

However I had a look in the Tithe Applottment books and see two Patrick Cunnane, one in Sligo but a bit far from the Roscommon border and one near Boyle in Roscommon you can have a look here  http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp and the nearest spelling to that given is here   https://www.townlands.ie/roscommon/boyle/boyle/tivannagh/drumanone/ the name on the Tithes is Patt Queenan and it is close to the Sligo border.

Hi Pat...no worriess...I figured it out after I started to look for the four patrick's that you cited....then realized that all the names of faather's were different. I have looked at the Tithe Applotment books and seen the one that you mention...I think it was in Drumonone (sp?) with a brother Michael and father Patrick.  Very susupicious, but I have been able to find no supporting data.  I now believe that he may have had a brother Michael, b. 1811 who married in 1829 in BolyPatrick near Bollina Mayo...so am reviewing that connection. Will perhaps do a separae messsage with details that I have of this Michael to see if it helps.  

Sometimess my geograpy of Ireland isn't the best...so need to keep checking my maps to see how close things are in this area. Thanks again for your assistance.  I will reply as I know/learn more. Sandi
