patrick mulligan

Trying to locate any information on Patrick Mullligan, born circa 1825. Census has him in New York City, married to Margaret Green. First born was Edward, 1863, in New York. one hint suggested Cavan

but not certain how accurate.

Thank you,

In 1880 he identifies as a laborer so this might not be him. If you haven't already, you might want to request a death record from New York State.

I checked RootsIreland (paid subscription) and 4 Patrick Mulligans were born in Cavan between 1815 and 1835. There could be more.

1817 parents Michael M. and Elizabeth Keleher

1822 parents Patrick M. and Elizabeth Kelaher

1827 parents Peter M. and Eleanor Magown

1835 parents James M. and Catherine M.

There was a Patrick Mulligan born in Westmeath in 1832. I was searching father's name Edward since Edward was his first born. What record do you have that suggests Cavan?

Mary,

Thank you. Cavan was just a suggestion from another lead. I have the same census info as you posted. I also found 46 Patricks listed in the New York Almshouse ledger. The name is so common that locating Patrick in Ireland is daunting. Next is to try and find a marriage record or a death record for Patrick or Margaret.

Thank you,

Bob MUlligan

FindMyPast gives baptismal records for the foIIowing MuIIigan children. Note there were two sons caIIed John. Both llkely died young as they do not appear in the censuses.

Bob,

In addition to Patrick's and Margaret's marriage and death records, you might want to check their children's marriage and death records. Sometimes they include parent information.

Here is death info from theggg.org for several John Mulligans.

I have a copy of Edward Mulligan's Baptism ( my great grandfather) from St. Bernards on West 14th St. Birth is 25Jan 1886. Baptism is 31 Jan 1886. Sponsors are Michael Green (my great great grandmothers'   brothers name). The other sponsor is Mary Plunkett. Some spelling of Green is also Grean. So I try to trace both.I have the 1880 census. I believe Edwards age in the census is off. Searching the 1870 census. Have not found and death records. I did a cemetery search with no success.
