I am looking for information on Patrick Conroy, born in Ireland about 1832, his wife, Margaret Smith Conroy, born about 1828, and their son, my great-grandfather, Patrick J Conroy, who was born about 1858. They arrived in the US in 1859 and by 1880 were settled in Hoboken, NJ. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I searched the Roots Ireland indexes and located an 1855 marriage in the Birr Co. Offaly RC records between Patrick Conroy and Margaret Smith. There was an 1856 baptismal record in the same church for a Patrick Conroy with parents Patrick Conroy and Margaret Smith. Your ancestors possibly?

OMG! That's amazing! Those are their names and the dates seem right. I have May 1858 for Patrick the younger's birth year, but that information is only from US Census records and they're often off by a year or two. I don't have any other information to corroborate your information, so I'll have to figure out what the next step is. The only other info I have for them, again from US Census records, are that they arrived in the US in 1859. How likely do you think it would be to have another set of Patrick father and son whose wife/mother is Margaret Smith? For now, I'm considering them mine! Thank you so much, Roger.

I thought of something else. Margaret Smith Conroy's death certificate lists her father's name as Thomas. Was that information included in the marriage record? Also, do you know the name of the church in Birr where they were married? Thanks again for your help.

I looked at this aspect yesterday and just reconfirmed. There are no other baptisms in Birr from 1855-1865 for Patrick Conroy and his wife Margaret.
