Owen McCann, Co. Cavan

Hello Again,

Still trying to find the family of John McCann, from Cavan, born approx 1830. This time trying naming patterns of his children. John's (and spouse Julia's)first son was named Owen. If the naming patters are what I have been told, is therea chance that there is/was an Owen McCann living in Cavan, who hada son named John who was born sometime around the 1830's?

John and Julia McCann named theirown children Owen, John , Michael, Mary Ellen, Patrick, Thomas, Peter, and James, so could those names be the names of John'ssiblings in Cavan?The names of James and Thomas are out of order in the above list because they were used twice by John and Julia in naming their children. The first 2 children with those names died, and the names were used again on the last two sons.

There are 4 John McCann baptisms around 1830 in Cavan on www.rootsireland.ie/; 2 are McCannas and none has father Owen

I'm afraid I had no luck finding siblings for any.

As 3 are R C and 2 have parish names, if you go to http://registers.nli.ie/ & type Drumgoon in the parish search you'll see the relevant filmstrips to search; same for LOUGH Gowna.

Marguerite McCann

I have found information from the 1841 census that lists Owen and Ann McCann,  children listed are Eliza aged 11, John aged 9, and Thomas aged 7.   The area is Killashandra, and Tullyhunco.  Is it possible to obtain additional information from your staff?  Birth records, marriages, baptisims...anything?

I see from the census that Owen's birth was c 1807

There are no birth/baptism records from Cavan for 1807 + - 5 years but here are the 2 closest:

I think the Armagh one had children there with Ann McMahon so not him.

Good Morning,  We are now looking for William McCann and his wife Johanna. We do not have a birth year for William, but Johanna was born approx. 1795. They probably lived in Co. Cavan and had at least 2 sons, John was born approx. 1830, and James was born within a year +/-of 1830. On the New York State Census, they are both listed as being 26 years old, so born approx. 1829-1830, so they might be twins?

 

Also, the 1855 NY Census states that Johanna is a widow, and has been in NYC for 5 years.

je suis a la recherche de la famille McCann de Cavan en Irlande. Mon arrière arrière grand-père est Owen McCann, fils de John McCann et Marie M, de Cavan Irlande. il a émigré au Québec vers 1880 et il s'est marier a Hermeline Boucher a Aylmer au Québec en 1882. Nous avons le même pattern de prénom John, Owen, John de père en fils.
