We have been researching Andrew O'Ryan of Bansha Castle. He was the great-great-grandfather of my wife Pat whose maiden name was Patricia O'Ryan. Pat's grandtaher John Andrew O'Ryan was born in 1849. He was the son of the Francis O'Ryan who was the older son of Andrew O'Ryan. We have not discoveredthe date of Andre O'Ryan's birth but we have traced his wife's family back to the 1660s. We will happily share what we have found about the O'Ryan family.

I am also a descendant of the O'Ryan's of Bansha and am planning a visit there this summer. My ancestors follow a line back through Harriet O'Ryan daughter of Edmund O'Ryan who was the son of Andrew O'Ryan. Harriet married a Major John Lutman. They are my GGGGrandparent. I have a photograph of Major Lutman and a photography of their daughter Harriet Lutman. I have attached it below. Harriet Lutman never lived at Bansha Castle, but her mother did. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of her.

I know this is an old message thread, but I am wondering Jack and Pat Williams, if you are still happy to/able to share some of the O'Ryan family information? My brothers and myself have only been able to go back to about 1745. Francis is my 3rd great grandfather and his son Francis is my 2nd great grandfather.

Andrew O'Ryan is my 5x's great grandfather. I paid to have a copy of his will which I have posted on Ancestry. My tree is called Thomas Murphy. I have been unable to get past Andrew and would love to go further back as this has been a brick wall for some time. I visited Bansha Castle in 2019 and also the grave yard where his son Edmund who was Francis' younger brother is buried. A half brother named William is also buried there. The will cuts Francis out and he moves to Australia. I am descended from Edmund who only had one daughter name Harriett. The will specified that it did not matter if Edmund only had female children the Castle would stay with him. Harriett married John Lutman who was British military and when they could no longer afford to keep the Castle they rented it to the British Government where upon General Butler occupied it with his famous artist wife Elizabeth Butler. https://www.banshacastle.com/history. ; I would love to be able to fill in the blanks before Andrew, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all, just popping in for an introduction. I'm descended from Major John Lutman and Harriet... they're my grandfather's great great grandparents. So it goes John and Harriet, then Ernest Myers and Harriet, then John Ratchford and Aileen Myers.... then my grandfather and so on.
Always nice to find new family, and thanks to all for sharing your information, finding our roots is a bit of a passion.
My understanding was that Bansha Castle and the lands was confiscated by the British government rather than rented... I wonder which is true and whether there is documentation... anyway my trees are on Ancestry, I'd love to connect. You can find me under Charisma Brandt.
