O'Neill Devitt County Clare

Hello McCoy!

You have given me my Maternal line with the Devitt Lynch with the marriage of Ellen and John Thank you . If I may ask? I'm at a brick wall with Martin O'Neill's parents. He was born about 1839 in about Inagh, Kilnamona County Clare, To Connor O'Neill. I wish I could find his mother's name and my Gr GrGranmother.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Kathee ( Kathleen)

Kathee,

I have checked various records for Martin O'Neil's birth and the marriage of his father Conor O'Neill.

In a cross check I did not find any sibling for Mary Devitt or Martin O'Neill.

Civil records are from 1864. I suggest you contact the Clare Heritage Centre in Corofin. They may be able to assist.

A fee is required.

Regards,

McCoy

THANK YOU ALL! So, my next question would be, if he died in 1869 what records would I look for his widow? I know my Gr Gr Grandfather was not the eldest son, would the land go to his widow or his first born son? Also, to find his burial perhaps his wife would be put to rest there as well?

I'm thinking I saw land records and I don't know what it's called but they were forced to leave and the land was sold, EXCEPT for parcel's with what I assume were private burial easements?

Everyone is so helpful and know the resources there for me to carry on..

The Story of Emigration link is a 'good read" TY.

Thank you again!

Kathee,

Attached is a death record for a Mary O'Neill of Kilnamona in 1885 with her son John present at death....don't know if this fits with your family.

Regards,

Carolyn

Thank you Carolyn..  I too am not sure either!  It feels  like I'm just a few steps away from tying John in as Connor's son..  For the longest I had a Mary ?? unverified  on my family tree for Martin's mother.  That would put her birth about 1795.  I'm getting alot of DNA matches at that level for names like McNamara, Kennedy. and O'Brien.   Growing up I also heard the name McDonough.  Ancestry is the 3rd DNA test I've taken and the only one that says I have 3% Scottish that has me thinking it could be a Mc name for Mary.?

I'll go back to the census records if I don't already have it attached for research as I get tangled up in the John's, James ect. Land records.

Thanks again

Kathee,

To add to your records, I attach a copy of the Baptism of Cornelius O'Neill in 1869. Being the first born son he was named after his grandfather.

Regards,

McCoy

Trying to get a clearer picture and not be confused, I just realized there are 5 possible Connor's For the son's of Connor O'Neill 1787.

My Gr Uncle born 1869, I know he was in NY/NJ and a  elderly man circa 1945.  Connor born in 1875 To Cornelius  in 1831 Brother of my Gr Grandfather Martin married to

Mary Maria Murphey.

Now to look over this Connor in the 1901 census born in 1861  I have Connor born 1787 had first born son Michael in 1822 married Mary Neylon (sp?) in 1857 had a son Connor  June 18th 1860

In Kilnamona  married Winnifred O'Loughlin.   I may have to re-examine all of these.

Thank you again!
