Myles and Mary Brennan from Annaghdown

Have been unable to find a birth or marriage record for Myles (c 1830) in Galway. Mary was born Mary Egerton Thornton and baptised on St Patrick's Day 1831 in Rahoon. They died in the early 1900s in Suckeen, Galway City. Three sons, John, James and Patrick emigrated to Western Australia. Their sister, Bridget (b 1859) married Patrick Kelly from Suckeen, Mary (b 1875) married Martin Howard from Suckeen. Catherine (b 1867) remained single. Another brother, Michael is said to have emigrated to New York and become a journalist.

Hi,

On the 1901 census they both identify being born in Annaghdown which wasn't maintaining baptism records until 1834. Civil records weren't maintained until 1864.

I checked RootsIreland (paid subscription) and Ancestry and did not find a marriage record. Based on the children's births, it would have been around 1857.

Many thanks, Mary. I'd done those checks and was hoping you had access to another one.

G'day from WA

I saw this birth record for a Michael Brennan 1870, son of Myles Brennan and Mary nee (unable to make out name) address Suckeen. I wonder if this is your Michael?

Thank you so much, Eileen for assembling all those records. I was aware of them but am thankful to have them in one place. Patrick Brennan was my grandfather. He married Mary McCann in Perth. She was the daughter of John McCann, a convict who was transported to WA in 1858 and who became a model citizen before he died. Convicts are now regarded as Australian royalty!

With deep appreciation
