My 3GGPs John (Sean) Mahoney (?1790- ?1852) and Bridget Collins (?1790-?1840)

Hi . Can anyone help me in locating details about above forebears ? All I know is that they married in 1814/5 at St Mary’s RC in Berrings via Iniscarra , Cork and had 6 children between 1816-1830; Mary (1816-1870), Michael(1817-?) , Jeremiah (1821-1821), my 2GGM,Margaret Murphy Nee Mahoney (1823, Aug 19, Iniscarra 1873, Bunkilla via Donaghmore ) who also married my 2GgF, Timothy John Murphy (1812, Bunkilla -1902?, Cork City), Cornelius (1826-1911)& Jeremiah(1829-1901) . John appears in Griffiths Valuations in 1852 in Iniscarra as does son Michael but no other details located.  I’d also like DoB, DoM and DoD and burial locations for John and Bridget as well as parentages as well as DoD and mutual site for my 2GGM, Margaret ? I’’m visiting Cork and surrounds in December . All help gratefully received .Cheers, 🇦🇺🏥

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland but was unable to locate a marriage record for John Mahoney and Bridget Collins. Likely they married in Bridget's parish and that parish does not have marriage records available back to 1814-1815. Civil registration of deaths started in 1864. Since John and Bridget died before 1864 and inniscarra parish did not maintain death information, there is no date for when they died. It is very unlikely that there is a marker for where John and Bridget were buried.

I assume john and Michael Mahoney were from Berrings townland?

Did you locate the civil death record for Margaret Mahoney Murphy in 1873. There were 24 death records registered that year in the Cork registration district but I did not see a Margaret Murphy record around age 50.

Hi

I've a feeling you might be looking for O'MAHONY.

There are O'Mahony graves/burials in Ballybunion, Kerry.

Maybe someone can look them up for you?

Liberty.

Roger, thank you for replying so promptly . My late GA thought Bridget Collins was t related  to the renown Collins clan of SW Cork but I’ve not uncovered any such evidence . As for my 2GGM, Margaret , I’ll have to widen DoD search between 1970 and 1875 as my GA mentions that het father told her his own mother died when he was in early teens , GGF bring  born  in (1858, Jan 30 - 1947, Mar 3). Talking of my GGF, I know he , John Timothy Murphy spent his last days in St Patrick’s Hospital in Cork City but I cannot find out sheet he’s buried . He lived in Crosshaven where his only daughter and her husband are buried as I visited the Crosshaven cemetery . His residence was , Ard-Na-Ree, Upper Rd , Crosshaven . Any suggestions whereabouts I might his resting place which I want to visit on my upcoming trip to Cork in December. Likewise trying to find both 2GGPs’ resting places, Timothy John Murphy (1812-1902) and Margaret Mahoney Murphy (1823, Aug 19- ??1870-5??. Cheers, once again ,R. Regards , TM 🇦🇺

Roger , as John(Sean ) Mahony’s eldest son is named Michael , I’m assuming John’s father was also named Michael and John’s mother was called Ellen Buckley , both from W Cork , born around 1760’s. John’s eldest daughter is named Mary so, that could be after her maternal grandmother , Bridget Collin’s mother ? Sheet speculation on my part ? Yes , John and children , including , Michael , hail from Berrings Townland but an exact DoM from parish records would help us along in our search perhaps 1811/2/3?? Cheers, TM

TM:

The naming pattern is a good guide for names of grandparents but it was not always followed.

I'm not familiar with the Cork archives and booking appointments.

Cheers , Roger . Thank you for your most invaluable help . BTW, I contacted local Barryroe PP and he has not heard of Donaghmore nor Lislee . I’ll  email him to ask which chapel / chapel ruins around Barryroe exist so that I may visit in December . Regards, TM🇦🇺
