My 3GGPs , George Robinson, cooper, Derry City, & Mary McCombe (1786-1873, Mar 4)

I'm after any information about the above forebears, which others may be able to shed light on. The 1831 census shows George Robinson and wife w 3 sons and 5 daughters living in Creevagh Townland in Templemore parish in Londonderry .George and Mary have 9 children of whom I can only identify 5, namely, my 2GGF, Daniel , horse trainer, (1809, Aug 1-1892, Apr 17, Melbourne , Australia), James (1822-1878); Isabella Hamilton (1825-1884); George (1826-1884, Melbourne , Australia) and Jane Scott (1833-1892). George’s DoD lies between 1832 and 1858 when wife Mary is listed as widow living at 4/8 Dark Lane , Derry City as tenant . I cannot find either where George and Mary are buried nor those of James and Isabella. Derry City cemetery opens in 1854 yet I only find Their youngest child , Jane and her husband interred there . The Robinson family was Presbyterian, according to the 1831 census. Not all Presbyterian churches had graveyards so many are buried in Church of Ireland graveyards. The UHF site lists 3 possibles, plus the City graveyard. St Columbs, Culmore Church of Ireland & Killea. Presbyterians generally didn’t keep burial records, so unless there’s a gravestone or a mention in the papers, for pre 1864 deaths there may be no record to find.

Presbyterian churches in Derry with pre 1840  baptism records are:

Carlisle Rd (start 1838)

1st Derry (1815)

Great James St (1838).

Copies of all are held in PRONI in Belfast. Don’t think they are on-line anywhere.

You might be mistaken when you assume George had 3 sons and 5 daughters. You have no way of telling from the 1831 census what the relationships were.  Elderly parents might have been living with him, or some may have been cousins or visitors. All you know are the total numbers on census night.
