Murphy Ann Harrington
I am searching for information on Patrick Murphy. Family info states he was born 17 March 1811. His parents were Edward Hoare (O'Hara) and Margret (Margaret) Bram. The only trace I have found for Patrick is the birth registration of his youngest child Patrick Murphy. Young Patrick was born 17 March 1864 Rooskey Termonbarry Roscommon Ireland. I suspect the family may have ended up in the Strokestown Workhouse in County Roscommon. Are there records on residents in this workhouse? We believe Patrick left to go to America along with his eldest son John. John apparently left in 1862 and worked for the Union army fitting horses. Patrick as well? Probably. Haven't found records but Patrick went on ahead and set up bringing the remainer of his family with him. Margaret travelled on the Ship Aurora in 1865 and disembarked at Castle Garden with the remainder of their family. The Murphy Family: John Murphy was born 5 December 1839. His mother is unknown. Not sure when Patrick remarried but his second wife was Margaret Hoare born 22 May 1828. Unknown County. Her parents Edward Hoare and Margrett Bram. Patrickand Margrett Murphy's remaining children were: Andrew b. 1849,Annorah b. 20 September 1850,Bridget b. 16 February 1857,Mary Ellen b. 21 June 1861( my Great Grandmother)and the baby Patrick. It is unknown if the family moved because of the great hunger or if they all were from the Termonbarry area where the baby Patrick was born. This family all settled in Riverton Township, Mason County Michigan USA.
Finding young Patrick's birth record was exciting because it marked where the family lived on 17 March 1864. I am hoping someone can give me advice on how to locate more information on this family. They were probably very poor. Margrett did not read and write and only spoke Gaelic. This move was a hard one. Family have passed down orally that Margrett wept a lot for the Ireland she left. My Murphy extended family do not know of how desperate lifewas for this family in the 1840's to 1860's.
I am hoping to gather more information and write their story to pass on to the next generations. I appreciate any advice you can give me with only the limited information listed above to work with... Thanks!
