Mulligans of Monaghan(?)

Hello everyone. I am trying to find the parish that my Mulligan ancestors came from. All I know about them is that there were four siblings - John, Thomas, Roseannah, and Bridget Mulligan emigrated to the US before 1850 with their mother Ellen. (They show up in the 1850 US census). They all settled in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, where most of the family still lives. I believe their father's name was Phillip but I have no record of him ever arriving in the US with them. I also believe Phillip's father was Terrence. Monaghan County appears in various records, so that's my best guess as to which county the family came from. Can anyone help me find a marriage record for Phillip and Ellen or birth records for their children? I have searched Ancestry and Family Search rather extensively.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and was not able to find a marriage record for a Philip Mulligan to an Ellen. I also looked for a Rose Mulligan baptsmal record with father Philip and got no record. (Rose is a less common name) You don't mention how old the children were in 1850 but most Co. Monaghan RC parishes have records starting 1835 or later so my assumption is that the children were baptized in a parish which no longer has records back to when they were baptized.

I also did not find a Philip Mulligan in the Tithe listings.

I assume you have taken a DNA test?

Hello all,

Thank you so much for replying to my query! I have taken the DNA test - my results are on Ancestry and FTdna. The tree that "kbender" shared does not seem to match up with any of my Mulligans.

I have seen the entries for Philip Mulligan in the tithe books. However, I am just having a very hard time figuring out which Philip is my ancestor!
