Mulcahy or Mulcahey

I am looking for my gggrandfather, Michael Mulcahy's birth information. I think he would have been born around 1845-47. His NYC death certificate from 1915 shows his parents as Thomas Mulcahy and Katherine Healey. I believe he married Mary Bradshaw on 2/3/1863 in the parish of Doon and Castletown. I believe she was born there on 12/28/1843, but I could not find Michael's birth registered there. My distant family thinks he came from County Cork, but I could not find anything there as well.

I have found documents using the spelling Mulcahey. I think I've hit a brick wall, would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks,

Mary K

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on three different data bases (Roots Ireland, www.irishgenealogy.ie and Find My Past) for all of Ireland and could not find Michael's baptismal record.  Perhaps he was born earlier than your estimate or his chuech no longer has records back to that time period. From the marriage record, it appears he was living in Doon in 1863.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. Perhaps you will match someone who has Mulcahy connections and has more info on the family in Ireland.

thanks .Hi Roger,  time has really passed since I reached out.  Just wanted to update, after lots of research and a DNA test I was able to locate what I think was  Michael's birth.  You were correct about looking earlier, he appears to have been born in 1835, baptized 23 Aug 1935 in parish Pallasgreen and Templebredin, diocese Cashel and Emly to Thomas Mulcahy and Cathrine Lahey.  I found his dead record in NY in 1915 which listed his father as Thomas and mother as Katherine Healy, though his age at death was wrong by 12 years,   Earlier NY census records have his age closer. But by 1900 he remarried and shaved off 10 years. Lol My DNA links me to a Hugh Mulcahey who emigrated to Gardner, Mass. area around 1850.   He appears to be an uncle or great uncle to Michael based on DNA, and is from the same place in Ireland
Thanks, Mary
